There are few duos in Washington who seem as close as former President Barack Obama and former Vice President, Joe Biden.
During their eight years in office, they were side by side constantly.
But since leaving office they are becoming distant, and Biden is furious at Obama for an insane reason.
Since the election of President Trump, Democrats have been looking at Joe Biden as a top contender to take him down in 2020.
This is due to his time as Obama’s Vice President.
So one will expect that Obama will be at his side going into 2020.
After all, Biden has little to show for himself at the national level besides his proximity to the former President.
Without Obama, he would simply be a forgettable Senator from the tiny state of Delaware.
But as it turns out, Obama might not end up being an asset for Biden, and sources are claiming the former Vice President isn’t taking it very well.
In recent weeks, Obama has been meeting with a number of potential 2020 candidates.
Most notable is Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.
O’Rourke is 30 years younger than Biden and holds many of the same positions.
Policy and personality wise, the two are rather similar.
And now O’Rourke is beginning to poll at comparable levels to Biden.
After his historic loss against Sen. Ted Cruz in the midterm elections, he is being seen as a major contender.
During that race, he was able to make a name for himself as a national Democrat.
In total, he was able to raise over $80 million from donors across the country.
Those are all valuable contacts for a national election that you can surely count on him using.
And these are all things giving him a boost over Biden, who has been largely out of the spotlight in recent months.
So with Obama meeting with O’Rourke, it signals that the former President may be looking for a younger and more relevant official to prop up as a potential candidate.
At least this is what sources in “Obamaworld” are claiming to Vanity Fair:
“Obamaworld insiders describe the former vice president as upset” with Obama’s attention to other Democrat contenders for 2020.
It is unclear if this is what Biden actually claims, as his spokesman Bill Russo is firing back, calling it “unequivocally false.”
Sources close to the president seem to think that Obama is currently playing the field, without picking a side.
A former Obama adviser reportedly said, “[Obama’s] position this time is, ‘If you’re serious and you want to talk, I’ll talk to you.’ As things unfold, he might say, ‘Let’s all stay focused.’ But he’s not going to pick a winner.”
So this means that it is likely Obama will not be of help to Biden in the primary process, where his support is most helpful.
Biden might see this as frustrating.
Obama is still majorly popular in the Democrat Party.
What he says holds a lot of weight in the party which is currently leaderless.
With Obama’s help, Biden can fill that void, and take his place as a major leader in the party.
But without him, it is likely any potential campaign will be dead in the water before it starts.
