Chuck Schumer thought his grip on power was secure.
That was a big mistake.
And now Joe Biden held one closed-door meeting that will lead to Chuck Schumer’s removal.
Granting amnesty for illegal aliens is one of the top Democrat Party legislative priorities.
Democrats believe that gifting tens of millions of illegal aliens citizenship and voting rights will allow them to swell the rolls with new voters in key states like Florida and Texas which will create a permanent socialist majority.
The left’s endgame is creating a one-party socialist state like China or the old Soviet Union and creating an insurmountable numbers advantage in the electorate through amnesty legislation is a crucial step toward Democrats achieving that goal.
To that end, Joe Biden held a closed-door meeting with the Hispanic Caucus where he let it be known he favored steamrolling amnesty through Congress by including it in a budget reconciliation bill.
POLITICO reports that “Biden said that he generally ‘supports passing certain immigration reforms by reconciliation if we can’t get the 10 Republican votes,’ Soto said after the meeting, referring to the number of GOP votes needed in the Senate to meet the 60-vote threshold required for most legislation. ‘And he would make a statement in the State of the Union.’”
Hispanic Caucus Chair Raul Ruiz reported that Joe Biden was all-in on this scheme.
POLITICO also reports:
“He supports the cause,” Ruiz said. If Biden’s current infrastructure plan ultimately goes through the reconciliation process and the Republican votes aren’t there for immigration, Ruiz said the Hispanic Caucus and Biden administration would “support the budget component of immigration reforms and job creation … and also a pathway to citizenship through the budget reconciliation.”
According to Ruiz, Biden expressed a “strong sentiment” about getting immigration reform “done once and for all,” through whatever means available.
In a meeting with activists, Nancy Pelosi doubled down on this plan.
“We think we can make a case about the budget impacts of immigration in our country, and we are going to try to do that,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi added.
But Democrats may be in for some bad news.
West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin is against the current amnesty bill favored by the Democrat House of Representatives.
Without his vote, there can be no reconciliation bill.
And to make matters worse for Democrats, Republicans only need to flip one Senate seat to reclaim the majority.
The longer amnesty is talked about, the less popular it will become and the more skittish Democrats will be to vote on it.
Republicans defeated the Gang of Eight amnesty bill in 2013 and 2014 by simply delaying holding a vote in the House of Representatives until it got so close to the 2014 midterms that it was politically toxic to even hold a vote.
And that episode should be instructive to Chuck Schumer and the Democrats for another reason.
After the Senate passed an amnesty bill, Democrats then lost nine Senate seats the following year in a historic midterm drubbing.
Chuck Schumer taking up another amnesty bill this year could be the beginning of the end of Schumer’s time as majority leader.
