Joe Biden is going to bring back the worst parts of Obama’s presidency if he gets the chance.
They didn’t work the first time and they won’t work now.
Joe Biden wants to reboot this disastrous Obama environmental program.
Obama claimed that he saved the American auto industry.
But Obama didn’t actually save the American auto industry, mainly he saved the United Auto Workers Union which gives heavily to Democrat candidates.
The United Auto Workers didn’t have to make normal bankruptcy concessions and it was taxpayers who had to bear the costs.
Another terrible plan that taxpayers ended up paying for was Obama’s “Cash for Clunkers” program that was trying to incentivize Americans to buy new cars.
Then the Obama administration offered $3,500 or $4,500 credits in 2009 to some buyers who bought cars with better fuel efficiency.
In 2010, a study reviewed the results of the program and discovered that at least 45% of the program’s money went to people who were going to replace their cars anyway.
Yet despite these findings, Joe Biden wants to bring the program back.
The Democrats are hoping to gain full control of the government so that they can pass whatever insanity they want.
A part of their plan is trying to get gas-powered cars off the road.
“Each new vehicle being purchased today will still be on the road in the 2030s,” Alison Cassady, the deputy staff director for Democrats on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, told the Washington Examiner. “So if we want to dramatically reduce greenhouse gases from passenger vehicles by 2050, we need to quicken the turnover of gasoline-powered vehicles.”
If stopping global warming is the goal, the Democrats’ idea doesn’t make sense.
Manufacturing a new car requires almost as much greenhouse gases as driving a car, so by Democrats’ own standards, keeping functional cars on the road longer should be their goal.
“Yes, you want to get those clunkers off the road, but if there are vehicles in better shape that have remaining life in them with still high emissions rates, those are the vehicles we want to go after,” said Joshua Linn, an economics professor at the University of Maryland.
The real people to benefit from the Democrats’ plan is United Auto Workers who fully support it.
“The bold Clean Cars for America plan would help make U.S. workers the leaders in clean vehicle jobs while also dramatically cutting pollution from passenger vehicles,” said Luke Tonachel, senior adviser to the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund.
This plan isn’t about helping the American people or even about saving the environment, it’s an excuse to get taxpayer dollars into the hands of Democrats’ allies.
