During the presidential campaign, Biden described himself as a transitional candidate that would pass the baton to the next generation of Democrat Party leaders.
Most voters assumed that meant Biden would not seek re-election in 2024, and that Harris would lead the Democrats in the general election.
But many Americans watching that press conference wondered if that scenario was too optimistic for Joe Biden.
Biden could barely handle softball questions from handpicked supporters.
Former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer even suggested that Biden was given the questions in advance and Biden still stumbled over his answers.
That desultory performance – which only added to the questions about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline – now has many wondering if Biden will step down before he serves a full four year term.
