Democrats were cheering when they learned that the Department of Justice may indict Trump.
Trump’s classified documents scandal was supposed to mark the end of his career.
But now, the Left’s planned indictment of Trump is collapsing before their very eyes.
In the aftermath of last year’s FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago and the revelation among left-wing media outlets that Trump supposedly kept classified documents in his possession even after leaving office, Democrats were both outraged and overjoyed.
They believed that this story would ultimately take down Trump, destroying his political career and potentially sending him to jail.
The New York Post reports, “Up until January 9, 2023, when CBS News reported that President Joe Biden had a classified documents scandal of his own, you could have bet the ranch that DOJ was poised to indict former President Donald Trump for illegally retaining national-security intelligence at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
“Prosecutors were getting their ducks in a row, taking the kind of steps that are only taken when the government is very serious about filing charges: appointing a special counsel, forcing former executive officials to testify before the grand jury despite potential privilege claims, aggressively litigating in the district and appellate courts to prevent Trump’s legal team from inhibiting their probe.”
But now, after months of investigations and following revelations that Joe Biden also kept unsecured classified documents in his possession, the Left’s planned indictment of Trump is starting to collapse as prosecutors realize they cannot build any case against Trump without also sinking Biden.
This means that Biden’s classified documents scandal has destroyed the Left’s plans to take Trump out of the 2024 presidential race.
And without a foil to sabotage Trump’s campaign, the Left now has little to attack Trump on.
The New York Post asked, “Thus, DOJ’s dilemma: The Democratic base’s most fervent desire is to see charges brought against Trump. But as a practical matter, how could Attorney General Merrick Garland and his appointed special counsel, Jack Smith, rationalize charging the former president without charging the incumbent president and the former vice president?”
This is a question which Joe Biden’s Justice Department has to contend with.
And there is no answer to this problem that does not result in Donald Trump being free to run against Biden in 2024.
As a result, the Left’s plans to knock Trump out of the running in the next election appear to be permanently damaged.
While Department of Justice prosecutors could try to angle for charges related to obstruction of justice, such a move would likely be seen by the rest of the general public as being deeply motivated by politics, adding to the growing list of examples of how the FBI and Department of Justice have been increasingly politicized and weaponized by the Left against their political enemies under Joe Biden’s watch.
Consequently, while a looming indictment of Trump was supposed to represent the final blow to his political career, it could instead serve as a major boost to his support in a potential political rematch with Joe Biden in 2024.
