The shutdown of the federal government has no end in sight.
And with the budget crisis entering its second week, neither President Trump nor Congressional Democrats show any sign of flinching.
But Rush Limbaugh just revealed why the shutdown is bad news for Democrats.
The debate in Washington is simple.
President Trump wants to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico and end illegal immigration into the United States.
Democrats oppose both of these measures because they hope to turn illegal immigrants into future reliable voters for the Democratic party.
This debate has been raging ever since Donald Trump took office in January 2017, and it has now spilled out into the public, triggering the recent shutdown of the federal government.
Neither side seems ready to give in either.
Democrats insist that President Trump cave on his signature campaign promise to build a wall, and the President meanwhile has shown no signs of backing down in the face of increasingly hostile threats from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.
However, Democrats should be looking for ways to strike a deal with President Trump, according to conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh.
Limbaugh spoke on Christmas Eve about his thoughts on the shutdown and its bad news for Democrats.
Breitbart reports, “Monday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh urged President Donald Trump to not back down on funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall despite the current government shutdown.”
Limbaugh went on to say that Democrats are entirely to blame for the shutdown and that the American people see they are holding the federal government hostage in order to prevent President Trump’s wall from passing Congress.
“The shutdown is obviously a top priority subject,” Limbaugh said. “I just need to reiterate some things about it. We’re hearing that it’s not going to be resolved until the new year. The Democrats have no incentive, really, to solve this until they take control of the House of Representatives.”
Limbaugh also has some advice for Trump.
“I want the president to hold firm on this.”
Democrats are on the verge of committing a monumental political blunder according to Limbaugh. Earlier this year, they were forced to back down during a government shutdown they orchestrated after trying to obtain amnesty for illegal immigrants.
They’re about to repeat this mistake once again.
“This shutdown is one that the Democrats own,” Limbaugh added. “This would be very easy to resolve, and they don’t want to do it. They don’t want to do it because…they believe in three months they will have fractured Trump’s base, i.e., you. They think they will have split Trump’s base.”
In short, Democrats are playing politics with the shutdown with the hopes that it will divide President Trump’s base of support.
In the eyes of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, they simply need to hold on, keep the government closed, and wait for Trump to either implode or reap the disaster of public opinion which awaits him if the government remains closed.
It’s a win-win for them, at least in their eyes.
But they’re wrong.
Limbaugh realizes that President Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 because he promised to build a wall and secure the border.
This issue was the defining position which made up Trump’s entire presidential campaign.
His supporters will not be divided on the wall because that’s one of the key issues that led them to vote for Trump in the first place.
