Between going broke and not having a clear leader, the Democrat Party is in serious trouble.
Making things even worse, many within the party don’t seem to be able to get along.
And a major Democrat just started a civil war that could very well destroy the party for good.
The Democrat Party has inflicted so much damage on themselves in the past two years that they may never recover.
After Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election, things truly went downhill for them.
They immediately shifted to being nothing more than the anti-Trump resistance. They have given up on promoting their core policies, and have instead spent Trump’s entire presidency pledging to stop him.
Those in the party have taken notice, and many have simply given up. The fact that the Democratic National Committee is steep in debt proves that much of their core base have given up on them.
And in the rubbles of the party that controlled the government just a few years ago, extremely radical elements have taken prominent places in the party.
Just last week a Democrat backed by the Democratic Socialists of America defeated the fourth-ranking Democrat in Congress.
While many are welcoming this more radical wing into the party, there are many prominent Democrats who are looking to hold onto the party’s more moderate positions.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois is one of those people unsure about the radical shift occurring within the party.
While speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Duckworth was asked about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the socialist-leaning Democrat who will join the House next year. Tapper wanted to know if Duckworth believes that Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist platform is the future of the Democrat party.
Sen. Duckworth stated that she felt it was the future of the party in the Bronx, where she was elected. But Duckworth pointed out the fact that you can’t win the White House without the Midwest, which is much more resistant to socialist politics.
Sen. Duckworth brings up an important point. Many on the left look at the excitement for a more socialist-leaning candidate like Bernie Sanders and believe that his support translates to national support for his policies.
But just because a candidate’s positions are popular in a place like New York or California doesn’t mean they will be popular in a Midwestern state.
While there are elected Democrats in the Midwest, with the exception of Illinois, those candidates must lean farther to the right than traditional Democrats.
The prospect of someone like Bernie Sanders being elected as a U.S. Senator in Missouri is extremely unlikely despite the fact that Missouri does have one elected Democrat.
This simple fact could end up creating a major conflict for Democrats.
Because while Republicans have a rather unified message nationwide, there are many Democrats who must take more moderate positions to gain election.
If the Democrat Party becomes the party of socialist values, it will almost certainly do nothing but harm more moderate Democrats.
Those Democrats will clearly fight back against this change in the party because it would only serve to harm them in their campaigns.
Do you think Democrats are becoming more socialist?
