Mitt Romney and Donald Trump have a rocky past.
Despite that, Trump gave his support to Romney in his race for Senate in Utah.
But right after being elected, Romney betrayed Trump to Robert Mueller.
Romney Gets Elected Yet Again
Mitt Romney has had a long political career.
While he has always been a Republican on the ballot, he often seems more like a Democrat.
As Governor of Massachusetts, he passed the bill Obama used as the blueprint for Obamacare.
He also enacted an assault weapons ban, angering many Republicans.
But still, he moved on, running for President in 2008 and 2012.
In 2012 he gained the Republican nomination to challenge Obama.
Because his record was so similar to Obama’s, it was hard to motivate Republicans.
So he lost to Obama, forcing him out of the political arena for some time.
But he chose to jump back in to run for Senate in Utah.
Because of his prominence with Mormons, he easily won.
And along the way, he had support from President Trump.
Despite the two not being on the greatest of terms, Trump supported him.
But as soon as he got in, Romney betrayed the President.
Romney Betrays President Trump
The day after the midterms, Jeff Sessions stepped down as Attorney General.
For months, Trump has been upset with him.
After recusing himself from overseeing the Mueller investigation they became distant.
Sessions was allowing Mueller to operate with absolutely zero oversight.
So Trump asked him to resign.
After that came out, Romney made his opinion on the matter known in a tweet:
“I want to thank Jeff Sessions for his service to our country as Attorney General. Under Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, it is imperative that the important work of the Justice Department continues, and that the Mueller investigation proceeds to its conclusion unimpeded.”
Romney is standing in the way of the president’s decision and making it clear that he wants the acting director to continue to allow Mueller to do what he wants.
Mueller has been running his operation for a year and a half.
And all that has come from it is multiple people being charged for crimes unrelated to his investigation.
It is nothing more than a witch hunt that apparently has the support of Mitt Romney.
Mueller Is About To Make Big Moves
With the midterm elections over, it is Mueller’s time to operate again.
Whether intentional or not, Mueller has been following an unofficial DOJ policy for months.
That policy is to not take major actions on political investigations within 60 days of an election.
Mueller hasn’t made any major moves for some time.
He has been quietly talking to a number of individuals of interest.
Most notable of those are Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and Steve Bannon.
So there’s a lot Mueller may try to do in the next few days or weeks.
But with Jeff Sessions gone, Trump may finally be able to stop him.
The probe has become nothing more than a political hit job.
Trump makes this clear, calling it a hoax just a day after the election.
Do you think Mueller’s probe is a hoax?
