Mitt Romney spent the last five years trying to bring down Donald Trump.
After working with the Democrats to try and convict Trump in impeachment trials and essentially endorsing Joe Biden, Mitt Romney finally got closure on his quest.
And Mitt Romney made this surprising prediction about Trump running for president in 2024.
In an interview with left-wing activist Andrew Ross Sorkin for New York Times’ “DealBook,” Romney tapped out to reality and admitted that if Donald Trump decided to run for president in 2024, he would cruise to victory in the Republican presidential primary.
“He has by far the largest voice and a big impact in my party,” Romney told Sorkin. “I don’t know if he’s planning to run in 2024 or not, but if he does, I’m pretty sure he would win the nomination.”
Romney held out hope that Trump would not run in 2024, claiming that “a lot can happen between now and 2024,” but Romney stated that if Trump ran for the GOP nomination “he wins in a landslide.”
The former failed two-time presidential candidate claimed that if Trump ran, Romney would endorse a candidate that “more represented the tiny wing of the party that I represent.”
That wing of the party supports open borders, amnesty, globalist trade deals and endless foreign wars.
In that case, speculation landed on Never Trump Republicans like Maryland’s pro-abortion and anti-Second Amendment lockdown enthusiast Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, pro-impeachment and Trump-hating fanatic Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse or Romney protégé Nikki Haley.
Sorkin then asked Romney about how given his belief that Trump would carry the GOP flag into the 2024 General Election, if Romney would support him.
Romney said he would once again effectively endorse the Democrat Party ticket in 2024 for a third consecutive election if Trump won the Republican Party nomination.
“I would not be voting for President Trump again. I haven’t voted for him in the past,” Romney stated.
By all accounts, Donald Trump is seriously thinking about running for president in 2024.
Fox News anchor John Roberts reported that while Trump would not announce a presidential campaign during his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump definitely wanted to stoke those fires.
“Sources close to Donald Trump tell me that in his CPAC speech, he will not announce a 2024 run, but that he will be ‘warm’ to the idea – and may even walk right up to the line of embracing it. I’m told he will also be highly critical of moves Biden has made so far,” Roberts posted on social media.
Romney is the face of the Republican Party that holds losing with honor as their highest principle.
The Romney wing of the party hates Donald Trump not only for what he stands for, but because the “Make America Great Again” movement seized control of the GOP from the establishment stumblebums that supported Romney and ran the party for decades.
Romney and his allies have always been threatened by the fact that Republican voters channeled their dissatisfaction with the GOP establishment through Donald Trump and then those supporters refused to break with Trump no matter what fake scandal the media, Democrats and Never Trumpers said was the end.
