Ted Cruz and at least ten other senators joined Josh Hawley in objecting to the Electoral College results.
That was bad news for Joe Biden-supporting Republicans like Mitt Romney.
And Mitt Romney tried to call out Ted Cruz. This is why it ended in humiliating defeat.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz and ten other Republicans signed a letter announcing they would object to certifying the Electoral College results unless a commission performed an emergency ten day audit on allegations of voter fraud.
Never Trump traitor and Utah RINO Mitt Romney called out Cruz by name in a statement attacking the senators for acting on concerns of the party base about voter fraud.
“My fellow Senator Ted Cruz and the co-signers of his statement argue that rejection of electors or an election audit directed by Congress would restore trust in the election. Nonsense. This argument ignores the widely perceived reality that Congress is an overwhelmingly partisan body; the American people wisely place greater trust in the federal courts where judges serve for life. Members of Congress who would substitute their own partisan judgement for that of the courts do not enhance public trust, they imperil it,” Romney wrote.
Romney claimed objecting to voter fraud was attacking democracy.
“Were Congress to actually reject state electors, partisans would inevitably demand the same any time their candidate had lost. Congress, not voters in the respective states, would choose our presidents,” Romney added.
Last summer Mitt Romney marched with Black Lives Matter anarchists and mouthed their slogans as Black Lives Matter rioters terrorized cities across America by burning and looting businesses.
When Trump supporters planned to march on the Capitol for the January 6 joint session of Congress, Romney suddenly was opposed to Americans exercising their First Amendment rights.
“Adding to this ill-conceived endeavor by some in Congress is the President’s call for his supporters to come to the Capitol on the day when this matter is to be debated and decided. This has the predictable potential to lead to disruption, and worse,” Romney added.
Mitt Romney is trying to position himself as the voice of the Republican Party in a post-Trump America.
That is sure to end in disaster.
Romney had his chance to lead the GOP and speak for its voters when he challenged Barack Obama in 2012.
But Romney lost that election as he largely refused to attack Obama and voters judged him to be a fraud that believed in nothing.
Polls show over 70 percent of Republican voters think the 2020 election was rigged and some polls found just three percent of Republicans think Joe Biden won the election legitimately.
Ted Cruz and the other Republicans that signed his letter are merely exercising their rights to challenge the results as afforded to them under the law.
And they are helping to keep the GOP united by showing their voters that they care about the concerns of the rank and file.
