Nancy Pelosi made a horrifying military request that was way out of line.
When Black Lives Matter protests caused widespread damage to Washington, D.C. she was outraged that Trump called for members of the National Guard to come to the capital.
Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi expressed concerns in a press conference on June 4th, less than a year ago, about “the increased militarization and lack of clarity that might increase chaos.”
“By what authority do these National Guard people come in from other states?” Pelosi asked at the time.
Since then Pelosi has changed her tune and thanked National Guard troops for protecting “democracy.”
“Even during this dark time in the history of America, we find reasons for hope,” she wrote last week on Twitter. “It was my privilege today to personally thank members of the National Guard who are working to protect our nation’s Capitol. Thank you for your commitment to our American democracy.”
There have been 26,000 troops placed in Washington, D.C. ahead of Biden’s inauguration but reportedly that wasn’t enough for Pelosi.
Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli spoke with Martha MacCallum on Fox News’ “The Story” on Tuesday, revealing that Pelosi requested “crew-manned machine guns” to make up part of the security force.
“A division,” Cuccinelli told MacCallum. “You have a division. The last up of thousands of these troops was requested by the speaker through the Capitol Police.”
“She even wanted crew-manned machine guns in Washington,” he said of Pelosi. “That was rejected because there’s simply no use for that in a security arrangement for a civilian undertaking. Just — so some of this has gone beyond any legitimate security need.”
The fact that Pelosi wanted machine guns in order to protect herself against civilians is shocking.
Cuccinelli was asked by MacCallum why there was a call for “such a tremendous force.”
He answered that it was in part because Congress was the target.
Numerous Americans died in the violent BLM protests over the summer.
“Where was this concern for the rest of America?” Cuccinelli continued. “But when their own (Congress’s) butt was on the line, all of a sudden they want every troop and soldier they can find to protect them.” He said they’re perfectly happy to do what it takes to keep members safe, but “not at the sacrifice of the rest of America.”
“Congressmen aren’t more important than any other American,” Cuccinelli added. “And everyone in this country should be kept safe and that’s what the Department of Homeland Security has endeavored to do through this entire difficult year.”
