Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in the political fight of her career.
The government is in a historic shutdown, and much of America know that it’s her fault.
And as this is going on she just got smacked with horrible news from her own party.
President Trump is done playing around when it comes to border security.
He has the government shut down to give him leverage in negotiations to finally fix the border crisis.
Trump is simply trying to get $5.7 billion in funding to build a wall on the border.
That shouldn’t be an issue, considering that illegal immigration already costs U.S. taxpayers upwards of $200 billion a year.
A wall will set up a solid barrier between Mexico and the United States, which will make entry much more difficult.
Other countries have walls, including Israel, and they are proven to work.
In the case of Israel, they have a much more direct threat on the other side of their borders.
Palestinian terrorists are constantly trying to attack Israel simply for existing.
But, in part due to their wall, terrorists are largely unsuccessful.
Despite it being clear that walls work, Democrats are working overtime to prevent Trump from winning on this issue.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading this effort.
She is refusing to accept any measure to re-open the government that includes wall funding.
That’s because if Trump wins on the wall, it will be good for his re-election bid in 2020.
But while Pelosi is fighting tooth and nail, some Democrats are starting to come around.
According to the Daily Caller, figures in Trump’s administration are making in-roads with some Democrats, particularly in Border States to bring in enough votes for a wall.
And this strategy seems like a sound one considering that a number of Democrats are signaling support for a wall.
Freshman Democrat Rep. Katie Hill from California told CNN just last week she will “vote for some money for physical barriers.”
Another Democrat, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington admits that “the wall is not in itself a bad idea,” making him a prime target for dissension.
This isn’t overly surprising considering that Democrats used to support border security.
Everyone from Nancy Pelosi to Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama has at some point in their career called for strict border security.
But in the Trump era, Democrats are changing, and shifting radically to the left.
Far-left Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are leading this push to the left.
In 2016, Sen. Bernie Sanders was able to divide the party between the establishment, and far-left.
Now many Democrats can’t support common sense issues like border security without consequences.
But some are being put in a difficult spot.
Because there are many Democrats in moderate districts, and border states that see the effects of illegal immigration every day.
So their voters are demanding an end to it, and Trump’s wall is the best way to do that.
