Former President Barack Obama may be the worst President of all time.
His eight-year reign nearly destroyed the United States as we know it.
But one thing he said during those eight years just came back to hand Trump a huge win.
President Donald Trump is dealing with a unique set of challenges.
There has never been a border crisis as extreme as it is now.
And Democrats are forcing division at levels never seen before in history.
It doesn’t matter what Trump does, the Democrat Party is going to attack him for it.
That is even if what he is doing mirrors decisions made during the Obama years.
In fact, when it comes to the border crisis, former President Barack Obama said many of the same things Obama is saying now.
Recently unearthed statements from 2014 show Obama making statements about illegal immigrants making asylum claims that mirror Trump’s policies.
In the statement, made from the Oval Office of the White House, Obama makes it clear that crime and poverty are not qualifiers for asylum.
The former President makes it clear that there is a narrow criteria for asylum, and simply living in a bad neighborhood is not enough.
“[U]nder U.S. law, we admit a certain number of refugees from all around the world based on some fairly narrow criteria. And typically, refugee status is not granted just based on economic need or because a family lives in a bad neighborhood or poverty. It’s typically defined fairly narrowly — the state, for example, that was targeting political activists and they need to get out of the country for fear of prosecution or even death,” Obama said in July 2014.
Obama also continued on to discourage those who are seeking asylum from illegally entering the United States.
“There may be some narrow circumstances in which there is a humanitarian or a refugee status that a family might be eligible for. If that were the case, it would be better for them to be able to apply in-country rather than take a very dangerous journey all the way up to Texas to make those same claims,” Obama said.
These statements came during Obama’s own border crisis during the 2013 and 2014 fiscal years.
Those years saw a 361% increase in family unit apprehensions at the border and a 77% increase in unaccompanied child apprehensions.
To handle the problem, Obama used many of the same policies that Trump is facing intense criticism for now.
That includes the use of migrant detention centers, although Obama did end up becoming infamous for the practice of “catch and release.”
Obama’s statements from 2014 and his actions during his presidency show just how extreme the Democrat Party is becoming.
In the recent Democrat debates, most Democrats were completely fine with decriminalizing illegal immigration and giving free healthcare to illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, President Trump is working to make sure the borders are secure.
Do you think Trump is doing a good job to stop illegal immigration?
