The so-called “mainstream” media is bombarding the Trump administration with negative coverage over the crackdown on illegal immigration.
So Attorney General Jeff Sessions stepped up to the plate and defended the President’s “Make America Great Again” immigration agenda.
But what Paul Ryan did next will make you sick.
Sessions appeared at a conference of law enforcement officials in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Attorney General defended the administration’s zero-tolerance policy of referring all illegal aliens caught trying to enter the country for criminal prosecution.
Sessions cited the Bible stating
“I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes. Orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves. Consistent and fair application of the law is in itself a good and moral thing, and that protects the weak and protects the lawful.”
Sessions’ comments came in response to liberal media outrage over the Trump administration ending the practice of allowing parents to use their children as human shields to enter the country.
Illegal alien children are separated from their parents because of two factors.
The first is the “Flores settlement” the Clinton administration reached in 1997.
This stipulates that children who were caught with their parents would be released to their closest guardian if their parents were in custody or to a program that was approved to take them in. In addition, the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 exempts children from being forcibly returned to their home country in an effort to fight human trafficking.
The law and common sense are on the Trump administration’s side.
Entering the country illegally is a crime and the Trump administration is treating it as such.
A parent caught committing any other crime would be separated from their children.
But pro-amnesty Republicans like Paul Ryan immediately stabbed the administration in the back and caved to the media pressure.
In a press conference, Ryan publically betrayed the President by attacking the policy.
Ryan declared he wasn’t comfortable with it.
To further increase the divisions in the GOP on immigration, Ryan put the finishing touches on an amnesty “compromise bill” that would have granted amnesty to nearly 2 million illegal aliens – a far greater number than the nearly 800,000 illegal aliens who have DACA permits.
Ryan’s bill would not have ended chain migration and it would have reallocated the 50,000 diversity lottery visas instead of ending the program as President Trump has insisted.
Ryan is clearly pushing an agenda that does not line up with President Trump’s goals.
The Speaker’s actions are infuriating the President’s supporters.
Trump was elected to put America First and that means cracking down on illegal immigration.
Instead of honoring the will of the voters, Ryan is pushing an amnesty agenda that is favored by his big money donors.
This move could not only undermine the President, it threatens the GOP’s hold on Congress.
Stopping amnesty is a core issue for Republican voters.
If the GOP base sees Congressional Republicans working hand-over-fist to push amnesty, they could throw up their hands in disgust and not turn out in November.
A depressed GOP coalition is the Democrats’ best chance to win back both houses of Congress and install Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer as Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader.
This nightmare scenario could even lead to Democrats in Congress working to impeach the President.
Paul Ryan knows all of this.
And it makes his amnesty push even more galling.
