When Paul Ryan was in Congress, he repeatedly stabbed Donald Trump in the back and undermined his agenda.
But with President Trump gearing up for his re-election campaign, Ryan has all hell breaking loose.
And that’s because Paul Ryan attended a secret meeting of Mitt Romney allies to deliver this prediction about Donald Trump’s future.
Paul Ryan was one of many establishment RINOs that reacted with horror that Donald Trump and anti-establishment conservatives seized control of the GOP from the pro-amnesty power brokers like Ryan and his donor class paymasters.
Ryan – who ran as a failed vice presidential candidate in 2012 with Mitt Romney – spoke to a closed-door event hosted by the company Solamere, which holds close ties to Ryan’s former running mate.
At this event, Ryan predicted Donald Trump’s defeat citing polling data showing voters that disapproved of both Joe Biden and President Trump broke strongly for the Democrats.
The New York Times exclusively reported:
Ryan, for instance, offered a bleak assessment of Mr. Trump’s electoral standing at a recent event hosted by Solamere, a company with close ties to Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah, and his family.
According to a partial transcript of the comments, shared by a person close to him, the usually tight-lipped Mr. Ryan said Mr. Trump was losing key voting blocs across the Midwest and in Arizona, a Republican-leaning state that Mr. Ryan described as “presently trending against us.”
While Mr. Ryan did not criticize Mr. Trump’s handling of the outbreak, he said the president could not win re-election this year if he continued losing badly to Mr. Biden among suburban voters who were wary of both candidates but currently favor Mr. Biden.
“Biden is winning over Trump in this category of voters 70 to 30,” Mr. Ryan said, “and if that sticks, he cannot win states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.”
In 2016, voters that held an unfavorable opinion of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump overwhelmingly chose Donald Trump on Election Day.
Ryan was trying to play it coy, but it is clear that the former Speaker was telling Romney’s allies exactly what they wanted to hear – that Donald Trump was doomed to defeat.
The establishment forces that Ryan acted on behalf of while in Congress would rather see the GOP in the minority for a couple of years than Donald Trump win re-election.
If Trump loses, the donor class and the establishment – led by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan – will claim that Donald Trump’s “tone” and “anti-immigrant” agenda alienated suburban voters.
Their answer for the GOP’s path back to power would be to lurch back to the Bush agenda of open borders, globalist trade deals, and unending foreign wars in the Middle East.
