The biggest thing standing in the way of the Democrat Party taking down Trump is themselves.
Establishment Democrats are on the brink of a civil war with far-left factions in the party.
And things just took a dramatic turn after Nancy Pelosi launched a jaw-dropping attack on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
It takes a lot to make Nancy Pelosi sound like a moderate.
But comparing her policies to somebody like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, she almost seems reasonable.
That’s because the socialist wing of the party has been jumping to new extremes at a rapid pace.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is even talking about going so far that she could ban domestic air travel to “save the environment.”
For a time, the two wings of the party have coexisted.
But as time goes by, it seems that won’t last.
And with the latest comments from Pelosi, a civil war in the Democrat Party could be on the horizon any day now.
Speaking to USA Today, Pelosi faced questions about the difficulties of leading the party in the House while dealing with major players in the party challenging her at every move.
These difficulties are most clearly highlighted by the relationship between Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez, and that is exactly who her response was directed at.
“While there are people who have a large number of Twitter followers, what’s important is that we have large numbers of votes on the floor of the House,” Pelosi arrogantly responded.
She doesn’t have to name Ocasio-Cortez in her response, considering that she is the only one who fits the description she is describing.
Ocasio-Cortez has nearly 4 million Twitter followers, while Pelosi has only 2.4 million.
In fact, nobody in the entire House has more Twitter followers than Ocasio-Cortez, who uses Twitter more effectively than perhaps any politician, with the notable exception of President Trump.
Ocasio-Cortez has the ability to mobilize mobs of radical left-wing supporters in an instant, and to dominate entire news cycles with a simple tweet.
This isn’t the first time Pelosi has had less-than-friendly words for Ocasio-Cortez.
Earlier this year, Pelosi gave an extremely dismissive response to a question about the Green New Deal, which is Ocasio-Cortez’s biggest issue.
Responding to whether the House will push the bill, her response makes it clear it won’t be a priority.
“It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,” Pelosi said dismissively before misstating the name of the bill. “The green dream, or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it, right?”
These statements make the prospect of Democrats uniting before the 2020 election less clear.
Unless they can unite behind a candidate, they will have no real chance to defeat President Trump.
And if 2016 is any indication, that will be hard to do.
During the 2016 election, supporters of Bernie Sanders became disenfranchised by the party refusing to take their views seriously.
Many were so upset with a mainstream candidate like Hillary Clinton getting the nomination they refused to vote for her.
