Democrats believe Joe Biden holds a comfortable lead over Donald Trump in the polls.
But appearances can be deceiving.
And this one phone call delivered Joe Biden the reality check he hoped would never come.
Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien held a conference call with 100 reporters to discuss the state of the 2020 presidential election.
Stepien made it clear that polls showing Joe Biden leading or running even in traditional red states like Georgia and Texas were nonsense.
The Trump campaign manager made the point that if the Biden campaign believed the polls, they should be pouring resources into Georgia and Texas.
“I would love, I would invite the Biden campaign to play in Texas,” Stepien declared. “They should play hard.”
“They should go after Texas really, really heavily,” Stepien added. “Spend a lot of money in the Houston and Dallas media markets. I would invite them to do that. I would even buy their first ad.”
As for Georgia, Stepien noted that Republican Brian Kemp won the gubernatorial election in Georgia over socialist Democrat Stacey Abrams despite the fact that these past midterm elections were a toxic environment for Republicans.
“Midterm elections are really hard to win, and the Republicans won in 2018 with the president’s help,” Stepien explained.
Stepien also dared the Biden campaign to put up or shut up and spend money in Georgia if they really thought Biden would carry the Peach State.
“I’d invite the Democrats to spend a lot of money in the expensive media market of Atlanta and keep thinking it’s for real, because we had the same conversation in 2016,” Stepien dared.
In addition, Stepien broke down the President’s path to 270 Electoral College votes, explaining that the President just needed to carry one of Michigan, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin provided the President carried the rest of the states he won in 2016.
“If we win any of these three states and the states the president won in 2016, Joe Biden stays in his basement and the president’s in the White House for four more years. It’s that simple,” Stepien declared.
But that doesn’t mean the President isn’t trying to expand the map.
Stepien informed reporters that the Trump campaign identified enough voters in Minnesota, New Hampshire and New Mexico to flip those states red and that they were in play this cycle.
“We already know where the votes are, we’ve already identified the voters, we’ve already talked to them,” Stepien continued. “We’ve just got to do it again.”
The polls all show Joe Biden leading.
But polls have been wrong before and the Trump campaign clearly believes their data paints a different picture of the race.
And with under 100 days left until the election, anything – as 2020 has already proven – can happen.
