Democrats are frantic about Kamala Harris serving as a “drag” on the Biden ticket in 2024.
There are whispers in corners of the Democrat Party that they want someone new.
And Kamala Harris was completely horrified when she heard about this new plan to replace her.
Most Americans believe Vice President Kamala Harris is hurting Joe Biden’s bid for reelection.
In a poll from Rasmussen Reports, voters were asked whether or not Harris is helping or hurting Biden’s chances at a second term.
33% of respondents said Harris was hurting his chances while just 22% said having her on the ticket was helping.
41% of respondents believed Harris’s influence was negligible.
“Most voters continue to have a low opinion of Vice President Kamala Harris and don’t see her as a helpful running mate for President Joe Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign,” Rasmussen said of the results.
It’s unsurprising that some Democrats are floating the idea of replacing her. Los Angeles Times columnist George Skelton suggested that, should Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) retire midterm, perhaps Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) would appoint Harris to fill the seat.
Skelton notes that Harris is a “burden” and a “drag” on Biden’s “reelection prospects.”
“A reader emailed me with the remedy: Feinstein could resign from the Senate and Gov. Gavin Newsom could appoint Harris to replace her. Biden then could find a more popular running mate, one more acceptable to voters as a potential successor,” Skelton added.
However, Skelton acknowledged that although there have been cases of Vice Presidents being replaced, it’s not likely Harris would allow herself to be pushed away so easily.
And Biden has made no indications he plans to replace Harris.
In a recent campaign fundraising pitch, Biden stated that “picking Kamala as my eventual vice president was one of the best decisions I made as a presidential nominee.”
He added that Harris was “the perfect choice” and praised her for “fighting tooth and nail for what’s right.”
Democratic pollster John Zogby similarly pondered Harris being replaced in a recent podcast.
“How do you handle a problem like Kamala?” Zogby said to his son, fellow pollster and managing partner at John Zogby Strategies, Jeremy Zogby.
“Will we see Joe Biden step aside, drop out, and if he does, will there be a clue, and by that, I mean, will Kamala Harris step down as vice president and be appointed to a special position?” asked Zogby.
“That would be a signal that Biden may be stepping down and realizing that in stepping down, he would need to help the party block Vice President Harris from being the nominee of the party,” he added.
