Conservative Senator Rand Paul is an outspoken supporter of freedom from the sometimes tyrannical government.
He knows that the radical left has taken things too far, and that their actions have violated the rights of the American people many times.
And Rand Paul just demolished the deep state with one word about FISA.
This past Tuesday, Paul introduced an amendment to the left’s radical Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, after news of the possible dismissal of the case against former national security advisor Michael Flynn broke.
He cited the case as “abuse” against Americans by the government and stated that “it should never be allowed to happen again.”
His statements join thousands of outcries against the Democratic-held House for passing the bill and the injustice it has caused.
Fox News reports:
“It flies in the face of our Constitution that a secret court can authorize invading an innocent American’s privacy,” Paul said in a statement Tuesday. “Recent months have once again made all too clear how such a system leads to abuse. It’s time for Congress to stop paying lip service to reform and pass real safeguards that respect Americans’ rights.”
He added: “What happened to General Flynn and President Trump should never be allowed to happen again.”
If passed, Paul’s amendment to the act would still allow the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to do their job by surveilling foreign enemies, but it would protect Americans from an abuse of power by requiring the government to obtain a warrant from a federal court, as opposed to the FISC whose inner workings are kept secret.
It would also prevent the use of information obtained without a warrant from being used against the individual in question, protecting them from suffering the same situations that Flynn and President Trump were made to suffer through.
Paul’s amendment was introduced after new details surrounding the Russian witch hunt had been unveiled.
Last week, the Department of Justice moved to drop the case against Flynn after it was revealed that the FBI coerced a plea without “any legitimate investigative basis.”
FISA was at the heart of the FBI’s Russian investigation against President Donald Trump. The Bureau used FISA to obtain the warrants it needed to survey Carter Page, Trump’s former campaign aide.
But now that the Department of Justice has delved into the matter further, many glaring errors have been uncovered including more than a dozen “significant inaccuracies and omissions” in the applications FISA used to obtain the warrants.
Paul’s bill has also introduced guidelines for stricter regulations of both FISA and FISC, including more severe penalties for politicians or “an employee, officer, or contractor of the United States Government [who] intentionally discloses an application, or classified information contained therein, for an order under any title of this Act to any person not entitled to receive classified information” who seek to use the program for their own means.
Paul continues to fight for America’s freedoms alongside President Trump.
They fight against the left’s attacks and abuses of power in order to secure a freer America for its people.
This is an ongoing story.
