The second President Trump took the podium with Russian President Vladimir Putin the media lost their minds.
It didn’t matter to them what happened at the meeting, they were immediately ready to report on it as being a disaster.
But Rand Paul rejected those attacks and pointed one fact that destroyed CNN and the entire mainstream media.
President Donald Trump is known to be a bit unorthodox when it comes to the way he leads, with international relations being no different. But despite his unorthodox tactics, he has been successful in cultivating fair relationships with leaders around the world.
So when President Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, there was really no way to know what he was going to do. But as it turns out, he chose to take a warmer approach to the leader, appearing alongside him appearing more as a friend than an adversary.
Trump’s friendly demeanor was a bit surprising considering the harsh actions Trump has taken against Russia, but it harkens back the historic meeting that he had with North Korean President Kim Jong Un. After a year of constant insults levied against Kim he met with him in Singapore for a very friendly meeting that so far has brought positive results.
One could fairly assume that Trump is taking a similar approach with Putin. But to the mainstream media that didn’t matter and they instead ran stories claiming that Trump was weak and that he “caved spectacularly” to Putin. Many Republican politicians even sided with the mainstream media, mirroring their criticisms.
But while many Republicans caved to the media, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul wholly sided with the President, praising the meeting between the two leaders. Paul called the criticisms coming from the media “ridiculous,” questioning why anybody would be opposed to having open lines of communication between countries.
Considering that nothing of real substance came from the meeting between the two leaders, Paul seems to have hit the nail on the head. The media was prepared to attack Trump for the meeting no matter what came from it, while ignoring the fact that Trump is simply trying to have open communication with a world leader.
The criticisms of the meeting were entirely to be expected before the meeting even began. With Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announcing the indictment of 12 Russian hackers in Robert Mueller’s Russia probe just days before the meeting; there was nothing that Trump could have done to avoid the criticism.
But as it is becoming clearer with every day that goes by, the American people don’t care what the media has to say. CNN’s viewership has been steadily declining, and Trump’s approval rating has been climbing.
The media had similar negative attacks after Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un which were not shared with the general population. Only time will tell if this meeting will be seen in a similar fashion.
Do you think that President Trump did the right thing in meeting with Putin?
