Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia collusion is a big nothing burger.
Despite operating for over a year, nothing indicting President Trump has been revealed.
And Trump’s lawyer knows this and just made Robert Mueller speechless after destroying him with one point.
Despite Robert Mueller’s collusion investigation not providing any evidence indicting President Trump of collusion with Russia, his investigation goes on. The likely reason it continues to operate has to do with the harm he is doing to President Donald Trump.
Robert Mueller has become a hero to the anti-Trump resistance, who are counting on him releasing evidence that will lead towards a Trump impeachment. But even if he doesn’t release impeachable information on Donald Trump, his investigation will serve a secondary purpose of harming Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections.
A number of polls show that a large chunk of the general public believe that Donald Trump and the Republicans colluded with Russia in 2016. Those people now believe that the Republican Party has loyalties with Russia, who have historically been an enemy to the United States.
Despite Robert Mueller dropping in favorability, he is still seen as more favorably than unfavorably with independents in the most recent polling provided by NPR.
That is very bad news for Republicans, who are trying to gain favor with independents in states they are running in the midterms. It also opens up a question about the investigation itself, and if it could be considered election interfering.
Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani is asking that question now. Because of this, Giuliani made it clear to Mueller that if he doesn’t end his investigation before September 1st he may be blamed for interfering in an election, just like former FBI Director James Comey was.
“He should get [the report] done by Sept. 1 and I say that because the elections are coming up. He shouldn’t do a Comey and try to interfere in the elections,” Giuliani stated. “Whatever he’s got, he should put up or shut up.”
Accusations of election interfering came to Comey after he refused to prosecute Hillary Clinton for her misuse of classified information on a private email server. Many people believe he did that in order not to create immense harm on Hillary Clinton like a full indictment would.
Robert Mueller could face the same accusations if he keeps his investigation going into the midterm elections like Democrats want him to do. Democrats are having a bad time leading up to the elections after realizing that President Trump’s Republican Party is the strongest in modern history, with the exception of George W. Bush in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
It is hard to fight back against an opponent who has lowered taxes, preceded over the lowest unemployment rate since 2000, and negotiated a major possibility at peace with North Korea.
Democrats need a manufactured scandal, like the one touted by Robert Mueller, to defeat the Republicans. Otherwise, they don’t have much to run on, especially with how weak and leaderless the Democrat Party is right now.
Do you think that Republicans are going to do well in the upcoming midterms?
