Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation was never about finding the truth, it has always been about harming President Trump.
Along the way, Mueller has gone after everyone close to Trump that he could get his hands on.
And he was just caught spying on one of Trump’s top campaign officials.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation was started in part with evidence obtained through FBI surveillance of Trump campaign officials. So to know that Mueller is continuing to spy on people close to Trump should be no surprise to anybody.
The initial FISA warrant obtained in 2016 was used to spy on former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
That was the same FISA warrant that was obtained in part using the now wholly discredited Russia dossier compiled by former British Spy Christopher Steele and paid for by the Democratic National Committee.
It was both information obtained through the FISA warrant and the dossier itself that gave Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein the justification to form the special counsel led by Robert Mueller.
So it was no surprise when Paul Manafort was heavily targeted by Robert Mueller. Mueller’s targeting of Manafort seemed to be effective, with Manafort having charges of money laundering dropped on him in October of 2017, and additional charges of obstruction of justice in June of this year.
To make matters worse, he was jailed for witness tampering just a week after his second set of charges were levied against him.
None of his charges have anything to do with his time on the Trump campaign, but that doesn’t matter for Mueller, who is simply out for blood.
Manafort is just a victim of the Mueller witch hunt, and almost certainly would not be in the position he’s in if he had not worked for Trump.
The reality of the matter is that he is in the crosshairs of Mueller, and jail is exactly where Mueller wants him to be, for multiple reasons.
First off, Manafort being in jail makes it seem as though Mueller has achieved something in his Russia investigation, and the media can boast about a former Trump official being behind bars.
Perhaps most importantly, Manafort being in jail makes it much easier for Mueller to keep tabs on him. In jail, there is virtually no right to privacy, and as a government official in the Justice Department, Mueller has full access to spy on Manafort day and night.
It has come out that Mueller is already flexing this power by listening in on Manafort’s phone calls from jail. This is known because information about Manafort’s calls have now become public knowledge.
The information released in an eight-page memo filed by Mueller’s team has to do with Manafort’s living arrangements in jail. It described how Manafort explained that he is being treated like a “VIP” in jail.
While that information doesn’t seem relevant to anything, it does prove that Mueller is indeed listening in on Manafort’s calls. It is very likely that Manafort is being spied on in the off-chance that he talks about his time on the Trump campaign.
Being a top campaign official, Manafort is sure to have a treasure-trove of information on Trump and the inner-workings of his campaign. That is most likely the information that Mueller is hoping to hear about.
Do you think Robert Mueller should be allowed to listen in on Paul Manafort’s calls?
