Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is one of the biggest stars in the GOP.
Outside of Donald Trump, no Republican in America terrifies the left more than Governor DeSantis.
And Ron DeSantis just learned one truth that Democrats tried to keep secret.
Ron DeSantis is running for re-election this November.
After the dramatic realignment of Hispanic voters to the GOP and Donald Trump’s three-point win over Joe Biden in the Sunshine State in 2020, Democrats fear Florida is moving out of swing-state territory and into the solid Republican column.
DeSantis amassed a $124 million war chest and holds an approval rating in the mid-50s as DeSantis heads into the fall campaign.
Democrats fear their candidates can’t win and aren’t preparing to invest resources into the Florida gubernatorial election.
“If you were to ask me, does Florida give you as good a return on investment as other places? Clearly right now it does not,” Democratic National Committee Finance Director Chris Korge declared. “We got our butts kicked in Florida recently. Our butts kicked.”
But Joe Biden desperately wants to blunt DeSantis’ momentum.
DeSantis built up a head of steam thanks to DeSantis leading the fight against lockdowns, mask mandates in schools and vaccine passports.
Korge told POLITICO that national Democrats needed to nip DeSantis’s rise in the bud out of fear DeSantis could turn into a 2024 juggernaut.
“I think the White House absolutely thinks we need to be engaged there now rather than waiting until 2024 when it becomes more expensive to stop [DeSantis],” Korge added. “We are going to be engaged in the midterm and, you can quote me on this, the DNC is absolutely not giving up on Florida.”
That’s why Biden threw a series of Hail Mary attacks smearing DeSantis for correctly not recommending the controversial COVID vaccine for young children and signing an executive order trying to starve Florida students of school lunches after DeSantis signed legislation banning woke teachers from grooming children in grades K-3 into transgenderism.
POLITICO reports:
But Biden in recent weeks has taken a more confrontational approach with DeSantis. Biden and his administration recently hammered the governor for making his state the only one in the country to not pre-order pediatric Covid-19 vaccines. White House Covid response coordinator Ashish Jha even held a briefing with Florida reporters, where he called DeSantis’ move “unconscionable.”
Biden also issued an executive order banning programs that receive federal money from offering conversion therapy, a direct response to the DeSantis administration pushing to end state-funded gender-affirming care for transgender minors. DeSantis’ health department also crafted a rationale to justify banning Medicaid from paying for puberty blockers for transgender people.
But Biden is on the wrong side of these fights.
Polls show a tiny minority of parents want to inject their children with a risky vaccine as the data shows children are at an extremely low risk of a bad COVID outcome.
And DeSantis’ legislation banning sexually inappropriate curriculum is supported by a majority of Floridians including a majority of Democrats.
Democrats are terrified that in 2024 DeSantis will win a landslide win over Biden or Kamala Harris.
Now DeSantis is seeing firsthand just how scared the Democrats are.
