Ron DeSantis’ personal life just got completely upended.
He got a call from the doctor that no one wants to hear.
Ron DeSantis received a devastating piece of news that will change his life.
On Monday Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that his wife received a terrible breast cancer diagnosis.
Casey DeSantis is 41 years old and she and Ron have three children: 4-year-old Madison, 3-year-old Mason, and 18-month-old Mamie, who was born while her father was in office.
“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer,” the Florida governor said in a statement. “As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady.
“As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state,” he continued. “Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up.”
Casey has played an active role as first lady of Florida and has led several major initiatives focused primarily on mental health and substance abuse.
“When I realized very quickly the impact that I could have, hopefully, on the state by just bringing people together to have a conversation, I thought, boy, there’s a lot we can do,” she said in an interview with the News Service of Florida. “You owe it to the people of the state to be able to get out in whatever capacity you can to be able to do good.”
Originally from Troy, Ohio, Casey DeSantis left Ohio to work for a local news and lifestyle show in Florida and for the PGA Tour as a producer and host.
She met DeSantis while she was practicing golf at a driving range.
“I kept looking over my shoulder because I wanted the bucket of balls that somebody had left,” she told NBC’s First Coast News in 2018. “As I’m looking over behind me, Ron is over there. He thinks I’m looking at him. I was really looking at the balls. Long story short we started to talk and that’s how we met.”
In the past she has praised Ron for being a supportive spouse and active father.
“He does a good job” with chores like dish-washing and diaper-changing, Casey told First Coast News. “I’m very appreciative of the job he does when he gets the chance to be home.”
Well-wishers abounded wishing Casey DeSantis a full recovery.
