Ron DeSantis scored a huge win in Florida when he won re-election by nearly 20 points.
Now, Republicans across the country are urging him to run for president.
And DeSantis just took one huge step to launch a formal campaign for the White House.
After scoring a historic re-election win in Florida that saw him run up a nearly 20-point score over his Democrat opponent, Ron DeSantis has elevated himself to hero status within the Republican Party.
Within the span of just four years, DeSantis went from holding the front line in what had been one of the top swing states in the country, to nearly single-handedly transforming Florida into a bastion of conservatism.
And at the same time, he’s also turned Florida into an emerging red state, giving Republicans a much-needed national boost by adding yet another large state into their column.
Now, after pulling off a generational re-alignment in the Sunshine State, DeSantis’s own national profile has grown tremendously in the weeks following his landslide re-election win.
And there’s a growing national movement to draft him for president.
While DeSantis himself has largely remained quiet about rumors of him running for higher office at the moment, that hasn’t stopped betting markets from propelling him to the status of Republican frontrunner for the 2024 presidential nomination.
And now, DeSantis himself just took one huge move that could signal the beginning of a formal presidential campaign.
The Washington Examiner reports, “Following a well-worn path into presidential politics, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signaled his bid Wednesday by announcing the publication of his autobiography and political blueprint.
“HarperCollins Publishers said its imprint, Broadside, will publish ‘The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival’ in late February.”
The announcement of a new book coming in February is the first clear sign that DeSantis is preparing to launch a presidential campaign of his own.
It has long been tradition for presidential candidates to publish a book before officially launching a campaign for the White House.
And now, DeSantis himself has taken that crucial first step to making a campaign official.
“’In The Courage to Be Free,’ Governor Ron DeSantis chronicles the most consequential decisions of his life and public service, including turning the Sunshine State into the promised land for millions of Americans. He has become one of America’s most closely watched officeholders, having delivered a historic, record-setting 2022 gubernatorial victory, winning by nearly 20 points and more than 1.5 million votes,” said DeSantis’s publisher.
The sheer scale of DeSantis’s landslide victory in Florida has created a firestorm across the political spectrum, as it shows that Republicans can govern as unabashed conservatives without fear of losing critical swing states.
Indeed, DeSantis has proved that running and governing as a conservative can even turn what was once a purple state into a Republican bastion.
“Polls have shown that DeSantis is the GOP’s second choice behind former President Donald Trump and that he would easily win the Republican nomination if Trump dropped out,” concludes the Washington Examiner.
