Democrats are trying to rewrite all American traditions.
They don’t see anything in America’s history worth celebrating.
Ron DeSantis threw down the gauntlet with a declaration no one expected.
On Friday President Joe Biden decided to mark Oct. 11 as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, instead of Columbus Day.
The reason for this holiday change isn’t to celebrate Native Americans, it’s just to try and get people to feel guilty about America’s past.
Biden announced this holiday by saying, “Our country was conceived on a promise of equality and opportunity for all people — a promise that, despite the extraordinary progress we have made through the years, we have never fully lived up to. That is especially true when it comes to upholding the rights and dignity of the Indigenous people who were here long before colonization of the Americas began.”
He added “For generations, Federal policies systematically sought to assimilate and displace Native people and eradicate Native cultures.”
Biden is trying to turn a day that celebrated Western history into a day that instead condemns it.
Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) responded on Monday by signing a declaration promoting Columbus Day in the state of Florida.
“Columbus Day commemorates the life and legacy of the Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus, who made Europeans conscious of the existence of the New World and whose travels opened the door for the development of European settlements in the Western Hemisphere, which would ultimately lead to the establishment of the United States of America,” DeSantis’ declaration said.
DeSantis pointed out that the holiday, first started by President Benjamin Harrison in 1892, had “until very recently” been a “unifying day for all Americans.”
The declaration pointed out the historic importance of Columbus’ journey.
“Columbus stands a singular figure in Western Civilization who exemplified courage, risk-taking, and heroism in the face of enormous odds; as a visionary who saw the possibilities of exploration beyond Europe; and as a founding father who laid the foundation for what would one day become the United States of America, which would commemorate Columbus by naming its federal district after him,” the proclamation continued.
DeSantis then mentioned the importance of the holiday for Italian Americans.
“Columbus continues to be a historical figure who engenders the pride of nearly 17 million Italian Americans, a community whose warmth, generosity, patriotism, and love of family have made those characteristics even greater components of the broader American culture and way of life,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis noted that the reason individuals want to get rid of Columbus Day is “as part of a mission to portray the United States and Western history in a negative light as they seek to blame our country and its values for all that is evil in the world, rather than see it as the force for good.”
DeSantis standing up to Democrats on cultural issues is important since it is Western history that established the ideals of democracy of freedom that America is founded on, and without it, America will soon degrade rapidly into unchecked authoritarianism.
