California Democratic Senator Kamala Harris is running for president.
She is considered to be one of the top-tier Democratic candidates for the party’s nomination in 2020 as well.
But one sex scandal just wrecked her hopes for the White House.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) has worked tirelessly for the past two years to stake herself out to be the most far-left Senator in America.
The California Democrat is trying to portray herself as the opposite of President Trump in every way possible, with the hopes of defeating him in 2020.
Harris just announced she is running for president this month as well, with a massive crowd in Oakland California helping her kick off her presidential campaign.
By all accounts, Harris is set to be one of the most formidable Democratic presidential nominees in what is increasingly a crowded field.
However, one sex scandal just wrecked her presidential ambitions.
Fox News reports, “Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown addressed his past extramarital relationship with U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris in his weekly column Saturday, saying he may have boosted the presidential hopeful’s career.”
“Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago,” Brown wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle.
“Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was [California] Assembly speaker. And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco,” Brown added.
Brown appointed Harris, who is about 30 years younger than Brown and was just out of law school – to two well-paid state commission assignments on the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and the California Medical Assistance Commission.
These offices helped to propel Harris’ political career, allowing the California Democrat to first become the state’s Attorney General, and then a U.S. Senator.
If Brown’s claims are true, Harris essentially slept her way to the top of California’s political hierarchy.
While the two broke up in 1995, they remained close political allies in the years afterward.
Harris has refused to comment on the matter to members of the press.
However, it’s clear that the sex scandal — which occurred while Brown was one of the most powerful politicians in California as the state’s Assembly Speaker – is a clear case of political favoritism.
While Senator Harris rails against the special deals and political privileges of a certain class of Americans, what she fails to tell her audience is that she herself benefited from those very things she now argues against.
It’s unclear how much the scandal will impact Harris’ prospects for the Democratic nomination for president, much less the general election against Donald Trump.
But the scandal comes at a horrible time for Harris, who has to battle her way through a field of likely 20 or more other Democratic candidates, each eager to use her political baggage against her.
Do you think Harris’ affair with Brown will hurt her as she campaigns for president in 2020?
