Conservatives were dreading this day.
The Supreme Court had a major decision facing it.
And this Supreme Court justice made a game-changing mistake that is bad news for every American.
After the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida, gun grabbers pounced on the tragedy to use emotional blackmail from a deranged gunman murdering high schoolers to ram through new gun control.
These anti-Second Amendment fanatics succeeded when then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a rule banning bump stocks.
“That is why today the Department of Justice is publishing for public comment a proposed rule-making that would define ‘machinegun’ to include bump stock-type devices under federal law—effectively banning them. After the senseless attack in Las Vegas, this proposed rule is a critical step in our effort to reduce the threat of gun violence that is in keeping with the Constitution and the laws passed by Congress. I look forward to working with the president’s School Safety Commission to identify other ways to keep our country and our children safe, and I thank the President for his courageous leadership on this issue,” Sessions released in a statement.
The shooter in Florida did not use a bump stock.
But the madman who carried out a horrific shooting in Las Vegas the previous fall did.
Fake news reporters lied about bump stocks and claimed it allowed gun owners to turn regular semi-automatic rifles into automatic machine guns.
This was fake news.
A bump stock does not allow a semi-automatic – which means the gun fires one bullet with one pull of the trigger – to turn into an automatic rifle like the military issues.
But the truth didn’t matter in this debate.
Gun grabbers demanded an inch so they could come back later for a mile.
And Jeff Sessions caved to their demands.
Gun rights activists filed suit to stop this assault on the Second Amendment.
They claimed Sessions violated the law by using a 1930s law banning machine guns to issue the regulation-making possession of bump stocks a criminal offense.
And they expected this case would go the same way as so many other challenges to administration regulations.
The standard operating procedure any time Trump issues an executive order on an issue like immigration is for liberals to sprint to a friendly courthouse where a District Court judge that Obama appointed will then issue a nationwide injunction stopping President Trump’s actions.
That did not happen in this case.
The lower court ruled against a temporary restraining order to block the bump stock ban while the case was litigated.
That left Second Amendment supporters one option – an appeal to the Supreme Court for a stay of the regulation.
However, this appeal ended in failure as well.
Conservative turncoat John Roberts denied the appeal.
This is ruling is bad news for conservatives on every level.
Not only does it show Roberts would likely side with the four liberals to uphold the bump stock ban, but it shows the left’s pressure campaign is working.
Roberts is now the swing vote in the court.
And fake news reporters are pressuring him to “act as a statesman” while at the same time every Democrat running for President is threatening to pack the court with extra liberal justices if the Roberts’ court rules against the left’s agenda.
Roberts’ ruling against gun rights, in this case, will only embolden the left to double down on this strategy when key cases on throwing out Obamacare and upholding Donald Trump’s immigration agenda appear before the court.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story.
