Chuck Schumer is scrambling.
Democrats are bitterly divided and pointing fingers at one another.
And this piece of paper is the smoking gun that will cost Chuck Schumer his job.
Schumer needs all 50 Democrat senators to stay united to pass a reconciliation package that will impose Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal on America and create a new socialist welfare state.
Democrats pegged the cost of the package at $3.5 trillion.
But there was a big holdup.
Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona balked at the size and scope of the package fearing a backlash back at home in their red states.
For months Democrats complained that Manchin and Sinema would not say what they supported, sowing mistrust on the left and causing socialists to rally against a $1.2 trillion so-called “infrastructure” bill – that was really designed as a political fig leaf to support the $3.5 trillion socialist spending scheme – and nearly blowing up Joe Biden’s radical agenda.
There was one problem.
Chuck Schumer knew since July what Manchin supported because both Manchin and Schumer signed a document outlining that Manchin would not agree to consider supporting any socialist spending scheme that went above $1.5 trillion.
$1.5 trillion is still an insane amount of money and debt, but socialists saw this bill as their last chance to nudge America into becoming more like Venezuela, so they wanted the whole kit and caboodle of $3.5 trillion.
And Manchin did not even agree to support $1.5 trillion in new socialist welfare programs.
“Senator Manchin does not guarantee that he will vote for the final reconciliation legislation if it exceeds the conditions outlined in this agreement,” the document read.
Schumer went into damage control mode and claimed a signed document did not equate to an agreement.
“Leader Schumer never agreed to any of the conditions Sen. Manchin laid out; he merely acknowledged where Sen. Manchin was on the subject at the time,” a Schumer spokesperson later claimed. “Sen. Manchin did not rule out voting for a reconciliation bill that exceeded the ideas he outlined, and Leader Schumer made clear that he would work to convince Sen. Manchin to support a final reconciliation bill — as he has doing been for weeks.”
Schumer’s deception made a fool out of his deputy, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin.
Durbin went on TV and whined that Manchin would not tell anyone what he would support and was holding up Joe Biden’s big government program.
“I think we’ve shown a lot of respect to our colleagues who obviously have a different point of view when it comes to reconciliation,” said Durbin. “There’s been meaningful negotiation that’s gone on for weeks. The president has been involved personally. I’ve never seen a president engage this way since Barack Obama’s days with the Affordable Care Act. So, we’re all in, all aboard. Now it’s time, I would say, for both senators, make your mark and close the deal. What is it that you want? What is your final goal? It’s time to stop talking around it and speak directly to it.”
Had Schumer told the truth about what Manchin would support, the socialists like Ocasio-Cortez never would have gone along with the fake infrastructure bill and Biden’s entire agenda would have gone down the tubes.
