Donald Trump warned the Republican Party.
But Trump’s words fell on deaf ears.
And this top Republican did the one thing Donald Trump begged them not to do.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem generated buzz as a 2024 presidential candidate because she fought back against so-called “public health experts,” the corporate media and the Democrat Party demands for tyrannical lockdowns and mask mandates.
But now Republicans are wondering if they misjudged Noem after Noem caved to Amazon, the NCAA and corporate interests when she announced she would not sign a bill banning biological males from competing in women’s sports.
Noem falsely claimed she could not sign the bill because it would violate NCAA policies that govern collegiate athletics.
“We didn’t want to just take action that would make us all feel good,” Noem stated. “We want to take action that would actually do good, and we have to do that in a way that we can actually win. We can win the argument, we can win it in court, and we can win it nationwide for all of our girls. That legal victory has to be based on Title IX.”
Alliance Defending Freedom General Counsel Kristen Waggoner explained to The Federalist that Noem was not telling the truth.
“The governor tried to explain her betrayal with claims that her hands were tied by NCAA policy. But there is no NCAA policy that requires schools to allow males to compete on women’s teams as Gov. Noem suggests,” Waggoner told The Federalist. “The governor also vetoed the part of the bill that gives girls any legal recourse against unfair policies that arise. What’s left is mere lip service for women and girls forced to compete against biological males.”
Conservatives believe Noem opposed the bill banning biological males from competing in women’s sports because Amazon threatened to move a warehouse out of the state if Noem signed the bill.
When Donald Trump delivered his first public speech after leaving office, Trump explained that protecting women’s sports from men competing against girls was a key rallying point for the Republican Party.
At the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump declared:
Now young girls and women are in sets that they are now being forced to compete against those who are biological males. It’s not good for women. It’s not good for women’s sports, which worked so long and so hard to get to where they are. The records that stood for years, even decades are now being smashed with these. Smashed. If this is not change women’s sports, as we know it will die. They’ll end, it’ll end.
If Donald Trump does not run for president in 2024, the nominating contest will be wide open.
Kristi Noem placed second in the straw poll vote at CPAC and her star was on the rise.
Republican voters place the highest value on being a fighter.
And they may look at Kristi Noem folding to Big Tech and social justice warriors in corporate America and the NCAA and think Noem was not the dependable fighter they thought.
