Robert Mueller is the man of the hour.
The Special Counsel is about to wrap up his work and present his findings on Russian interference in the 2016 election.
And Democrats are already scrambling to break from him in a major way.
Robert Mueller is almost done.
After spending two years looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election, Mueller is about to wrap up his work for good.
Many even expect to see Mueller finish his research and write up his report within the next month or two, and it seems very likely that he will present the Justice Department with his findings in 2019.
However, despite the fact that the left has cheered Mueller on for nearly two years now, there is growing anxiety within the Democratic Party.
Democrats were hopeful that Mueller would drop the hammer on Trump and finish off his political career for good.
It’s increasingly looking like that will not be the case.
And as the evidence continues to pile up that Mueller is about to leave the Democrats high and dry, more and more of them are beginning to break with the Special Counsel by moving the goalposts.
Chief among these is California Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff, who has championed the Trump-Russian collusion conspiracy theory for the better part of two years now.
Schiff is obsessed with proving a link between the Trump presidential campaign in 2016 and the Kremlin.
He had previously helped out hoping that Mueller would do his dirty work for him.
But that no longer appears to be the case, which has forced Schiff to take matters into his own hands.
With time running out, Schiff is now working to break his ties with Mueller in an unprecedented way.
Breitbart reports, “Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) hinted that he would not accept the findings of special counsel Robert Mueller as the end of the investigation into President Donald Trump and Russia.”
CNN’s Dana Bash asked, “We expect at some point maybe soon, maybe not, the findings of the Mueller investigation to finally be completed. If he finds that there was no direct collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, will you accept that?”
Schiff’s response was one of desperation from a man who is now coming to terms with the reality that Mueller is about to leave him with nothing.
“We’re going to have to do our own investigation, and we are. We’ll certainly be very interested to learn what Bob Mueller finds…We may also need to see the evidence behind that report. There may be, for example, evidence of collusion or conspiracy that is clear and convincing but not proof beyond a reasonable doubt,” Schiff said.
The fact that Schiff is still trying to argue that the President broke the law, while admitting that there will likely not be evidence beyond a reasonable doubt, goes to show just how far Schiff has fallen.
If Mueller’s report doesn’t directly indict the President for breaking Federal law, Schiff is going to make sure that he will continue to find a way to attack Trump anyway.
That’s the definition of moving the goalposts.
