Dozens of Democrats are gunning for their chance to take on President Trump in 2020.
But the field is now beginning to narrow, with a few frontrunners emerging.
And a top Democrat is fuming with anger after campaign-ending news dropped in the worst way.
Sen. Kamala Harris has had a shaky campaign filled with ups and downs.
The California Senator hopped into the race with the full support of the mainstream media.
CNN even predicted she would have the best chance at winning the Democrat nomination.
And eventually, she had her moment which brought her to the front of the pack.
Harris took on former Vice President Joe Biden on his past opposition to desegregating school buses.
She pointed out that she was a student at one of the first schools to desegregate busing, making it personal for her.
Following her heartfelt statement to Biden, her campaign had a sizeable boost in support, with Biden losing a lot of support overnight.
But all of that was short-lived, considering that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard was waiting to take Harris on.
During the next debate, Gabbard outlined Harris’ record as a prosecutor in California, which included imposing harsh sentences on marijuana offenders, despite the fact she admits to smoking marijuana at some point in her life.
Following that debate, Harris lost all the momentum she had going for her.
And a new video that came out from a campaign stop at Bickford Senior Living Center in Muscatine, Iowa just made things even worse.
Harris was confronted by an elderly resident who questioned her about healthcare.
“I understand that you are advocating health care for everyone,” the woman said.
“Who’s going to pay for it?” she asked.
“Well, we’re going to pay for it. Because right now, let me tell you something, we’re all paying for health care for everyone– ” Harris began before the woman cut her off, saying, “no we’re not.”
“Leave our health care system alone,” the woman added. “We don’t want you to mess with it.”
Harris has come under fire in recent months over her healthcare policies.
She continues to flip flop on whether she wants to do away with private insurance.
In a CNN town hall earlier this year, she told host Jake Tapper that she supports Medicare for All, and while speaking on private insurance she said, “Let’s eliminate all of that. Let’s move on.”
But other times she has denied supporting eliminating private health insurance.
This flip-flopping has many Democrats unsure about if they can trust Harris.
While Harris has been inconsistent on stating outright whether she supports eliminating health insurance, her opponents like Bernie Sanders haven’t been.
Sanders has long advocated for eliminating private insurance, and completely socializing the healthcare industry.
It is that consistency that has helped Sanders keep a steady stream of support.
But Harris hasn’t been nearly as consistent, and it is clearly hurting her.
