Riots and looting shook Chicago on Sunday night into Monday morning.
But the city is using their resources to track average citizens instead of criminals.
A top Democrat is using this scary use of personal data to track people.
It’s odd that the Democrats never want coronavirus restrictions to apply to protesters under any circumstances.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was so disturbed by a beach party that she not only posted about it on social media, she also went to personally shut the party down.
“It’s called a pandemic, people. This reckless behavior on Montrose Beach is what will cause us to shut down the parks and lakefront. Don’t make us take steps backwards,” Lightfoot posted.
She then erected fencing in Montrose Beach to discourage people from gathering.
Public health authorities in Chicago will also be checking social media to make sure that visitors are following their 14 day quarantine.
“One of the easiest ways to sort of get enough proof that there was the potential of a violated quarantine order without me having to send out an inspector or do any sort of more aggressive follow up to collect that is to look at social media,” said Dr. Allison Arwady, Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner, according to NBC Chicago.
“They’re in any of the states that violated our order and then a few days later, they’re in Chicago, and they’re clearly out in Chicago, not just back, but at a restaurant or at the Bean or whatever it may be, and they’re posting about that — that’s an example of where we could use that as proof to issue citations,” Arwady added.
But there was insufficient police presence to stop crowds of mass looting on Sunday night.
“The looting began shortly after midnight as people darted through broken store windows and doors along Michigan Avenue carrying shopping bags full of merchandise,” the Chicago Tribune reported. “Cars dropped off more people as the crowd grew. At least one U-Haul van was seen pulling up.”
Despite the fact that the police couldn’t stop the looting and 13 police officers were injured Mayor Lori Lightfoot says Chicago does not need National Guard help.
Instead of trying to break up beach parties the Democrats need to focus on getting the rising violence under control.
Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin released a statement on the rioting.
“Once again, Illinois government has failed to protect its residents and businesses. It is time to bring in the National Guard and accept any and all federal assistance to stop the chaos that is destroying our state. No more excuses. No more failures.”
Mayor Lightfoot needs to refocus her priorities and deal with the real violence instead of coronavirus quarantine infractions.
