Since the election of Donald Trump, he has faced intense opposition.
It is sometimes rare to have a solid win.
But a major court just handed Trump one, and it’s the best news ever.
When running for President, there was perhaps no issue that stirred as much controversy as his travel ban did.
He wanted to take a list of countries, picked by former President Obama, and restrict travel until a stronger vetting system could be put in place.
He was viciously attacked for this reasonable measure that would ensure national security.
He was called racist because the countries targeted are majority Muslim. But the countries listed are also hotbeds of terrorism, which is oftentimes dismissed as a racist claim.
It was that misconception that the proposal was religiously motivated that led towards a challenge by the state of Hawaii, who has been the biggest thorn in Trump’s side on this issue.
But the arguments made by the state of Hawaii were decimated by the Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote the majority opinion.
The statement made it clear that it was found that the travel restrictions weren’t based on religious motivations, but instead national security concerns. That is why it was found to be constitutional.
“The [order] is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices,” Roberts wrote. “The text says nothing about religion.”
After the decision was made, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to express his excitement in a short tweet in all uppercase.
SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS TRUMP TRAVEL BAN. Wow!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 26, 2018
Needless to say, this Supreme Court decision was extremely contentious. It is perhaps the most controversial decision the Supreme Court has made.
Immediately after the decision was made, left-wing activists took to the streets showing their disapproval. Every left-wing politician made it clear they are going to fight to reverse the travel ban law.
Despite the opposition, there are not much facts coming from those opposed to the measure. The seven countries listed, including Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Venezuela, and Yemen are hotbeds of terrorism.
Many of the governments of the countries listed have terrorists linked to politicians in power. Extreme vetting is necessary to make sure that anybody coming from these countries is not here for nefarious reasons.
Trump enacted his travel ban without notice because if he gave notice, someone with ill intent would work to enter the country as quickly as possible before the decision could go into effect.
It was all a strategic move, and was intended to be temporary. But Democrats completely ignored that fact, and claimed that President Trump was simply making a racist decision.
But thankfully President Trump is in power, not the Democrats. It was his Supreme Court Justice, Neil Gorsuch that allowed this decision to be made.
Above all else, the decision is a testament to the importance of Trump being President. Those that opposed Trump, and his Supreme Court nominee would have stopped this decision from being made if they succeeded.
