Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation has been going on for far too long.
For over a year, Mueller’s investigation has served to do nothing but create division.
That’s why President Trump just cornered Mueller and dropped a demand he’s going to hate.
With Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion investigation officially in its second year, there has been more speculation than ever that the probe will be coming to an end. Even some Democrats have been forced to admit that it should come to an end sooner rather than later.
But Mueller himself doesn’t seem to have an end date in sight. He has continued to push forward with the investigation like it just began yesterday.
That’s why President Donald Trump hired on former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to represent him. Giuliani has used his no-nonsense strategy to get the important questions surrounding Mueller’s investigation answered.
Giuliani also recently stated that he expects the Russia probe to end by September of this year, something that Mueller has neither confirmed nor denied. But President Trump has officially put an offer on the table that could force Mueller to end his investigation by September, or perhaps sooner.
President Trump knows the one thing that Mueller wants more than anything is an interview with him. Mueller has been pushing for an interview with the President for many months, but Trump has wisely declined.
While an interview could serve to clear President Trump’s name, it could also be used to create more controversy for the President. If Mueller tricks the President into saying something untrue, or into stretching the truth, that could lead towards a perjury trial against the President, even if Trump never meant to perjure himself.
So in short, there was much more for Mueller and the Democrats to gain by interviewing the President than Trump had to gain. That’s why he has refused to interview so far.
But Trump has chosen to give Mueller the opportunity to interview him. But there are strings attached.
If Mueller agrees with Trump’s terms, and interviews him, Mueller must close his investigation two months after the interview. Depending on when the interview occurs, that could lead towards the investigation coming to a close before September starts.
A September end date is important because of the November midterms occurring just a month later. If the Russia investigation report shows that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, it would be good news for Republicans aligned with the President facing elections.
Democrats are planning to use Mueller’s Russia probe as a weapon in the election. That will become impossible if the report compiled by Mueller shows that he wasted the last year looking for collusion that never occurred.
That is a likely outcome considering that Mueller has not released any substantial evidence proving that collusion occurred. The only “smoking gun” that Mueller has uncovered was the Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Trump’s then-campaign manager Paul Manafort, and a Russian lawyer.
The meeting turned out to be a “nothing burger,” proven by the fact that Mueller never even spoke to the Russian lawyer in question. Trump has the possibility to end this investigation before it can be weaponized by Democrats, and may succeed.
Do you think Robert Mueller should end his investigation before the November midterm elections?
