Robert Mueller’s investigation is bringing out the worst in many of Trump’s former allies.
They are willing to turn on the president simply to gain favor with Mueller.
And one of Trump’s former allies is about to turn on him, and it could mean jail time.
Robert Mueller’s targeting of Trump allies is paying off big time for him.
When he started placing charges on people close to the president, for charges unrelated to Russia collusion, nobody was sure what game he was playing.
On the one end, it is an immediate media win, as the left doesn’t do their research, and assumes the charges they are facing relate to either the president or Russia collusion.
But there is an entirely different reason for this action.
Considering that the charges against Trump’s allies are serious, Mueller is able to gain information.
Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort, in particular, are facing very serious charges that could mean the rest of their lives in prison.
So if Mueller wants them to speak, he can give them a very good reason to do so by giving them the chance to reduce their sentences.
And considering those sentences could be the rest of their lives, they have a strong incentive to say something that Mueller will like.
That’s why Democrats are also salivating at the idea of questioning those figures.
Cohen is testifying in front of the Democrat-controlled House Oversight Committee this week.
He is going to speak about Trump’s alleged role in a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, as well as allegations of Trump manipulating his net worth, and using racist language.
The once Trump ally is now going completely off the handle, and attempting to save face against the deep state by attacking the president.
Of the allegations Cohen is expected to bring up, the only one that is arguably a crime is the so-called “hush money payment.”
But in itself, that most likely isn’t a crime, and certainly isn’t as big a deal as is being played up.
It is completely normal for high profile individuals to pay up to avoid scandals hitting the public spotlight, sometimes when they are not even true.
And while Cohen pled guilty to a campaign finance violation related to it, that was part of a broader plea deal lumped in with other, more serious charges.
So it is likely that Mueller gave him a deal to ensure he pleads guilty, so it can give the appearance of criminal activity.
But while Cohen is going to try to harm the President as much as he can, there are Trump allies who will be questioning Cohen’s character.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, in particular, is making it clear he is going to be rough on Cohen.
Gaetz, who calls Cohen a known liar, is hinting at scandals that will come to light against him.
On Tuesday, he tweeted, “Hey [Michael Cohen] — Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot.”
So no matter what happens, things are going to get heated.
Do you think Trump will end up in prison?
