Sen. Chuck Schumer is having the worst year of his career.
President Trump is preventing him from implementing any part of his agenda.
And Trump just made things even worse after exposing one secret about Chuck Schumer.
Democrats are losing their minds with Trump in office.
They never expected he would be President and had no course of action in that case.
So for the past two years, instead of promoting their agenda, they have been trying to unify their party.
They were hoping a midterm blue wave would do that.
But the American people continued to stand with the president, allowing Republicans to keep the Senate.
So Chuck Schumer is stuck in a bad spot.
If Democrats were able to take back the Senate, he would be Majority Leader now.
But instead, he is stuck in a minority position, with very little power.
In his position, he is trying to negotiate with President Trump to reopen the federal government.
Trump is demanding wall funding, while Schumer is attacking the very idea, calling a wall “impractical” and “offensive.”
But that isn’t how Schumer has always felt.
In Trump’s historic national address on the border crisis, he lays out former beliefs of Schumer, saying:
“Sen. Chuck Schumer, who you will be hearing from later tonight, has repeatedly supported a physical barrier in the past, along with many other Democrats. They changed their minds only after I was elected president.”
This is true; Schumer has been a very vocal critic of illegal immigration in the past.
“Illegal Immigration is wrong, plain and simple. Until the American people are convinced we will stop future flows of illegal immigration, we will make no progress,” Schumer said in 2009.
This outlines the ultimate hypocrisy of the Democrats.
They are only willing to support securing the border when it is a popular issue for their base of support.
Currently, attacking President Trump is the winning issue for Democrats.
It is the only thing the party has any unity on.
And Trump’s biggest issue is border security.
So in turn, Democrats need to stand against his immigration policies.
Building a wall is the biggest win Trump can achieve during his presidency, so Democrats will fight with all their might to prevent him from winning.
It doesn’t matter if it will make America safer, which it will.
Democrats are forced to make up anything imaginable to fight against Trump’s wall.
Immediately after Trump’s national address, Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi held their own address in response.
But the address was mocked, by people on both sides of the political spectrum.
Their response was dry and filled with angry rebuttals to Trump’s address.
Pelosi declares that Trump has “chosen fear,” while Democrats “want to start with the facts.”
Schumer never addresses his past support for stopping illegal immigration, instead, he lobs attacks at Trump.
In the end, Trump clearly had the more compelling address.
Do you think Trump did a good job in his national address?
