The Trump White House is working behind the scenes on a project that could hand the left the worst defeat of its life.
It revolves around the Supreme Court.
And all hell is about to break loose when Trump names this Supreme Court replacement.
Liberals are on edge.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg – a pro-abortion and anti-gun radical who leads the high court’s liberal bloc – will miss at least two weeks of oral arguments after it was revealed doctors removed cancerous tumors from her lungs.
Democrats – from Barack Obama on down – are worried health issues will force the 85-year-old Ginsburg to retire and give Donald Trump the chance to replace her with a conservative.
But who will Donald Trump select as his third Supreme Court nominee?
The President committed during the campaign to only choosing justices from a list of 21 justices prepared by the conservative legal community.
Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh appeared on that list.
Many experts believe Trump will select a conservative woman to replace Ginsburg.
That led speculation to focus on one candidate.
The leading candidate appears to be Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
Coney Barrett was a finalist for the nomination that eventually went to Brett Kavanaugh.
Coney Barrett is a conservative Catholic that attracted national attention when Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein attacked her for her faith during her confirmation hearings.
“You have a long history of believing that your religious beliefs should prevail.” Feinstein ranted. “When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you,” The California Democrat concluded. “And that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years in this country.”
Coney Barrett was a member of Faculty for Life – a pro-life organization at Notre Dame, her alma mater.
In addition, Coney Barrett signed a 2015 letter to Catholic Bishops insisting they defend the Church’s traditional position “on the dignity of the human person and the value of human life from conception to natural death” as well as defending traditional marriage.
She also belongs to People of Praise, a charismatic Catholic organization.
Taken in total, Democrats are on red alert for a Coney Barrett Supreme Court nomination.
Replacing Ginsburg with Barrett would dramatically shift the court to the right.
Grassroots conservatives favor Coney Barrett as their preferred nominee.
Many Trump supporters wanted the President to choose her over Brett Kavanaugh when Justice Anthony Kennedy retired.
Now that Republicans expanded their Senate majority to 53 seats, there is no reason for Trump not to pick the absolute most conservative nominee on his list.
And that puts Coney Barrett at the head of the field.
Democrats will throw up fearsome opposition.
They attack members of groups who deviate from Democrat dogma on issues like abortion and gun control.
Liberals tried to smear Clarence Thomas in 1991 because a conservative black man was a threat to their narrative that Republicans were evil racists.
The same will be true if Trump nominates Coney Barrett.
Democrats believe they own the women’s vote and that abortion is a “woman’s issue.”
But Democrats face a major trap in attacking Coney Barrett.
In the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 elections, the candidate that won the Catholic vote won the election.
If Democrats on the Judiciary press Barrett too hard on her faith, they risk alienating millions of Catholic voters ahead of the 2020 election.
And that could hand the election to President Trump.
