As former President Obama was leaving office, he told Donald Trump that North Korea would be the biggest problem he would face.
So far, it seems that Trump is handling it pretty well.
And after a new announcement, Trump is going to get the big win he’s been waiting for.
President Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was historic. Trump used the negotiating tactics he is famous for as the author of “The Art of the Deal” to convince Kim to sign a document promising to work towards denuclearization.
This is something that no other president could do, and was one of former President Obama’s biggest disappointments. But, against all odds, President Trump is making great progress.
And despite things seeming to move slow since the summit between the two leaders, a massive bombshell just dropped from South Korea.
An agreement signed between both North and South Korea stated that the two countries would actively work to establish a permanent and solid peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. This is a massive development considering that the two countries have been at war for 65 years.
After signing the agreement, South Korean officials stated their optimism that the two countries will be able to officially end the Korean War before the end of 2018.
This means that the agreement signed isn’t just a do-nothing document, but that solid steps are being worked on so the war can officially end.
This development was almost certainly helped by the increasing diplomacy between the United States and North Korea. South Korean President Moon Jae-in has praised Trump’s work in Korea, even stating that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.
Many others have called for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and he has been officially nominated. But despite his great work, it is very unlikely he will receive it simply because of the anti-Trump views expressed by many on the Nobel committee.
Regardless of if he gets the prize or not, he truly has done more to establish peace around the world than any president in modern history.
Under former President Obama, relations between the United States and North Korea were in a dire state. That likely had to do with the weak leadership of Obama.
Trump came into office and immediately negotiated from a position of strength, even going so far as to fire back at Kim Jong Un’s insults targeted at Trump with insults of his own. While many felt that was irresponsible, it clearly worked.
While Trump was quick to insult Kim Jong Un when he was threatening the world, he was just as quick to participate in good-faith negotiations when he wasn’t. That shows the North Korean dictator that President Trump is somebody who he wants to be on the good side of.
Only time will tell if North Korea will truly live up to the promises they have made to both South Korea and the United States, but clearly things are looking good.
Do you think President Trump has done a good job dealing with North Korea?
