Donald Trump continues to flex his political muscles.
But this latest move left Washington speechless.
And that’s because Donald Trump put this Republican on the spot with a big demand that changed everything.
Donald Trump likes to demonstrate his power in the Republican Party through his endorsements.
Trump regularly touts the won-lost record of candidates he supports in GOP primaries.
The two standout examples were Ron DeSantis and Brian Kemp winning the gubernatorial elections in Florida and Georgia based on the strength of Trump’s endorsement.
Trump recently issued a statement endorsing incumbent Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy.
In the endorsement, Trump praised Dunleavy for defending the Second Amendment and the energy industry from Joe Biden’s assaults on the Constitution and oil and natural gas.
“Mike Dunleavy has been a strong and consistent Conservative since his time in the Alaska State Senate. I was proud to endorse his first run for Governor, and I am proud to support his reelection, too. From his handling of the virus, support of the Constitution — including the Second and Tenth Amendments—taking advantage of all the opportunities Alaska has to offer, and his strong pushback against the Liberal Biden Administration’s attempt to hurt our great Country,” Trump’s endorsement read.
However, Trump offered a big-time qualifier to his support for Governor Dunleavy.
Trump explained that he would retract his endorsement if Dunleavy did not denounce Alaska incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski.
“Alaska needs Mike Dunleavy as Governor now more than ever. He has my Complete and Total Endorsement but, this endorsement is subject to his non-endorsement of Senator Lisa Murkowski who has been very bad for Alaska, including losing ANWAR, perhaps the most important drilling site in the world, and much else. In other words, if Mike endorses her, which is his prerogative, my endorsement of him is null and void, and of no further force or effect!” Trump added.
Conservatives desired to defeat Murkowski for more than a decade.
In 2010, Tea Party challenger Joe Miller defeated Murkowski in a GOP primary only to see Murkowski win a write-in campaign following a fake news media smear campaign against Miller.
Murkowski supports abortion on demand and grabbing guns.
In 2018, Murkowski also voted against confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court following the Democrats fabricating hoax allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh.
The final straw was Murkowski voting to convict Trump in the Democrats’ second impeachment witch hunt following the events of January 6.
Following that Murkowski impeachment betrayal, Trump declared that he would endorse a challenger to Murkowski and campaign for them.
“I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski,” Trump declared. “She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.”
Trump did – in fact – endorse former state Commissioner of Administration Kelly Tshibaka who is running against Murkowski.
And now Trump conditioned his endorsement of Governor Dunleavy on the Alaska governor renouncing Murkowski.
