When former President Obama left office, he warned that North Korea would be Trump’s biggest issue.
He didn’t think that Trump was competent enough to handle the issues with the country.
But with one secret meeting Trump ordered, peace could be coming to North Korea quickly.
It’s been nearly a decade since a major U.S. official has met with a leader of North Korea.
That is until a few weeks ago when newly appointed CIA Director Mike Pompeo traveled to North Korea to meet with North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un.
The meeting was kept top secret until just days ago when Trump publicly announced that the meeting occurred.
Pompeo’s meeting was largely about getting North Korea’s leader to meet with President Donald Trump, which Trump recently announced will happen.
As reported by The Daily Caller:
“CIA Director Mike Pompeo traveled to Pyongyang over Easter weekend for a secret meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, The Washington Post reported, citing two people with direct knowledge of the trip.
The top-secret trip was reportedly “part of an effort to lay the groundwork” for President Donald Trump’s meeting with Kim in the not-too-distant future. Pompeo, who was recently tapped to serve as the new secretary of state, has so far led the administration’s negotiations with North Korea. His clandestine trip to the North marks the highest-level meeting between the U.S. and North Korea since the turn of the century.
In recent weeks, The U.S. was in direct contact with North Korea, U.S. officials revealed to the media, adding North Korea had demonstrated sincerity and expressed a willingness to seriously discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. was engaging North Korea in dialogue at “extremely high levels,” Trump said when speaking to reporters Tuesday. The president did not go into any detail. But The Post’s revelation indicates talks are indeed being held at the highest levels as both sides prepare for an unprecedented meeting between a North Korean leader and an American president.”
Communications between President Trump and North Korea are already proving to be extremely productive.
North Korea has signaled a potential end to the long-running war between them and South Korea.
There have been talks about denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
All of these developments have come in wake of CIA Director Pompeo’s meeting with Kim Jong Un.
When Barack Obama was president, there was no indication that anything productive would come from dealings with the isolated country.
At every turn, the entire world laughed at the weak leadership in the United States.
But after President Trump took office, he’s turned things around.
In the past year, the left looked on angrily as Trump made it clear to North Korea that he isn’t going to play nice with them.
And just a year into his Presidency, Kim Jong Un is ready to talk to Trump, and possibly strike a deal to eliminate his nuclear weapons.
Do you think that President Trump is doing the right thing by meeting with Kim Jong Un?
