With every day that goes by, President Donald Trump proves himself more and more.
That is reflected in his climbing approval ratings and recognition.
And it will also be reflected on a prize that he’s about to win that will cause former President Obama to freak out.
In 2009, the world was shocked when former President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Even Obama himself was confused, and many of his supporters felt that he didn’t deserve it at the time.
The award was given to him for “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” but was given to him so early in his presidency that he didn’t have a chance to actually do anything besides talk.
Then, in 2015, a former Nobel secretary spoke out that he regretted giving Obama the prize, largely due to the alter actions in his presidency. While Obama ran on a largely anti-foreign intervention campaign, he actively spent much of his presidency exasperating conflicts around the world.
Despite the former President not deserving the award, Obama still brags about his Nobel Peace Prize whenever he can. But that may become harder for him to do now that President Donald Trump is likely on the verge of winning a Nobel Peace Prize, but for a well-deserved reason.
President Donald Trump has officially been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by two Norwegian lawmakers. A nomination is in no way a guarantee, but it is a good step for Trump.
Being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize would be well deserved in the wake of his negotiations towards denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The talks, led by President Trump have caused North Korea to halt their nuclear weapons testing, and make a pledge to continue talks on full denuclearization.
But despite having allies pushing for President Trump on the matter, it could likely be an uphill battle considering the people on the Nobel Committee. Many on the Nobel Committee have directly attacked President Trump in the past.
Nobel Committee member Thorbjorn Jagland called then Presidential candidate Trump “divisive and irresponsible” in 2015. The Vice-Chair of the Nobel Committee, Henrik Syse took things further and stated that Trump’s rhetoric has “lowered the threshold for moral decency so far it is downright scary.”
So while President Trump has his nomination, getting the proper support on the Nobel Committee is another challenge altogether. While former President Obama had an easy time with the committee, it is clear that Trump will be treated much differently.
But if President Trump is able to be seen as more than the evil monster portrayed by much of the mainstream media, he could have a fighting chance. Compared to former President Obama, President Donald Trump has been a tremendous voice for peace.
He has virtually wiped the violent terrorist group ISIS off the map, as well as talked North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un out of continuing his nuclear testing. There is nobody on Earth currently that deserves to win a prize for promoting peace more than Donald Trump.
