Joe Biden and the Democrat Party are both facing a major decision.
It did not turn out the way anyone expected.
And two jaw-dropping new polls led to a shocking announcement about Joe Biden.
Joe Biden continues to maintain he is running for re-election in 2024.
Biden needs to say that because his presidency collapses into lame duck status the second Biden reveals he is not seeking a second term.
However, two new data points show why few Democrats believe Biden will run for re-election or even want him to.
The first came from a Harvard-Harris poll which found that 71 percent of Americans do not want Biden to run for re-election.
In the poll the most common answers for why Americans do not want Biden to run again is he is a failure and he is too old.
Seventy-one percent of registered voters polled said President Joe Biden should not run for a second term, while just 29% said he should…
…Among those who said he shouldn’t run, the most common reason given was that “he’s a bad president” (45%), followed by “he’s too old” (30%), and “it’s time for a change” (26%).
Not surprisingly, the poll shows Biden with weak approval ratings on a host of issues, but he fares worst on economic matters. Just 28% either strongly or somewhat approve of his handling of inflation, while 32% approve of his handling of the economy overall.
Not surprisingly, a second poll from Emerson found Donald Trump growing his lead over Joe Biden to five points since the last time Emerson polled a 2024 matchup between Trump and Biden.
Emerson wrote about their poll:
In a hypothetical 2024 Presidential Election matchup between President Biden and former President Trump, Trump holds 44% support while Biden has 39% support; 12% would vote for someone else and 5% are undecided. “Since last month, Trump has held his share of support while Biden’s support has reduced four points.”
Biden’s low standing with the public and deficit against Donald Trump led Democrats to do the unthinkable.
Illinois Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker – who made noise by traveling to the crucial early primary state of New Hampshire – admitted that Joe Biden could face a primary challenger.
“That’s not something I’m encouraging, but it’s certainly possible. We’ve seen it in the past,” Pritzker told reporters.
Elected officials do not speak this way about the incumbent president of their own party.
The fact that the governor of Illinois can speak openly and freely about Joe Biden facing a primary challenge without any fear of retribution from the national party or the administration shows that Democrats have turned the page on Joe Biden and moved on.
