Hillary Clinton’s email scandal will go down in history.
It will be seen as one of the most inexcusable acts of corruption ever.
And a hearing that is just days away will spill the beans on just how bad it was.
When Hillary Clinton used a private email server to send and receive classified information, she never expected she would get caught. But during the 2016 election, her dangerous misuse of classified information was brought front and center in the public debate, crushing her reputation.
Despite having her reputation irreparably harmed, she still got off easy.
Mishandling classified information has caused many people to go to prison, and has also resulted in major changes to U.S. national security. Hillary Clinton very well could have ended up in a criminal investigation and trial, but then-FBI Director James Comey made sure that didn’t happen, and chose to give her a public scolding instead.
Hillary Clinton and James Comey likely felt that the situation was done with after his announcement that she was not being charged, but then Donald Trump was elected President.
Since Trump was elected President, the Department of Justice has begun investigating how the FBI handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton.
Now, nearly two years after Hillary Clinton’s emails first came into the news, we will finally find out the details behind the FBI’s investigation. DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz has finished his report, and it has been released to Congress.
It is generally standard for Congress to review investigative reports prior to being released to the public, and now that they have had time to review it, it could be just days away from a full public release. While it is unclear of the exact date of the report being released, it appears that June 5th is probably a good guess.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley just announced a hearing titled “Examining the Inspector General’s First Report on Justice Department Decisions Regarding the 2016 Presidential Election” will occur on June 5th at 10:00 AM EST.
The Senate Judiciary Committee will be examining the report compiled by the Department of Justice, which almost certainly means that report will also be released on or around that date.
Several key officials will be called to testify at the hearing, with the goal of proving political bias behind the decisions made at the FBI in relation to Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
While the report has only been viewed by certain individuals, early reports claim the investigation will hold both former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe accountable for mishandling the case.
This is coming at a terrible time for the two former FBI officials, as well as Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton is attempting to regain relevance in the political arena. After losing the Presidential election, she lost almost everything. Prior to the election, Hillary Clinton was highly admired, oftentimes being among the highest rated political figures.
The 2016 Presidential election destroyed her. Any new information around her email scandal only serves to make life harder for her as she attempts to insert herself in the political conversation.
James Comey also has much to lose. After releasing his new book, he is seen by many as a sort of hero, who did his best to stand up against Donald Trump. This investigation could destroy his reputation even further if clear cases of corruption are exposed.
It is unclear what will happen on June 5th, but one thing is for certain: it isn’t going to be good for Hillary Clinton or James Comey.
