Robert Mueller’s Congressional testimony is one of the most anticipated moments in recent political history.
Democrats and the fake news media are counting on Mueller to deliver a dagger to the heart of Donald Trump’s Presidency.
But then William Barr hit Robert Mueller with this warning that changed everything.
The Democrats’ only hope to breathe life into the stalled out impeachment push is for Robert Mueller to drop new bombshells about Russian collusion or obstruction of justice that were not included in his report.
Attorney General William Barr sensed that Mueller and the Democrats might try and get cute at the hearing and sought to nip it in the bud.
Associate Deputy Attorney General Bradley Weinsheimer fired off a letter to Mueller warning him to keep his testimony to the confines of his report.
“Any testimony must remain within the boundaries of your public report because matters within the scope of your investigation were covered by executive privilege, including information protected by law enforcement, deliberative process, attorney work product, and presidential communications privileges,” Weinsheimer’s letter read.
“These privileges would include discussion about investigative steps or decisions made during your investigation not otherwise described in the public version of your report,” Weinsheimer continued.
Weinsheimer added that Mueller should be careful to protect privileged matters.
“Consistent with standard practice, Department witnesses should decline to address potentially privileged matters, thus affording the Department the full opportunity at a later date to consider particular questions and possible accommodations that may fulfill the committees’ legitimate need for information while protecting Executive Branch confidentiality interests,” he added.
Despite Mueller’s supposed reputation for “patriotism” and “integrity”, Mueller proved otherwise during the course of the investigation.
His office leaked like a sieve and Mueller filed a final report that included numerous falsehoods and misrepresentations.
Mueller also proved he was a sneaky operator when after the Attorney General William Barr released a summary of Mueller’s findings, Mueller leaked a letter where Mueller complained to Barr that Barr’s release of Mueller’s top line conclusions did not generate enough negative media coverage.
Barr testified that Mueller did not object to any factual statement Barr made.
But Mueller’s letter allowed the fake news media to run wild with a false narrative that Attorney General Barr covered up Mueller’s true findings.
That’s why Attorney General Barr has every right to be suspicious of Mueller’s intentions as he gets set to testify.
Few Americans believe Mueller intends to stick to his report.
That’s because it was clear from day one that Mueller’s job was to provide Democrats with the grounds to impeach President Trump.
And this testimony is Mueller’s last chance to achieve that goal.
Republicans expect Mueller and the Democrats that will question him to collude in order to create the biggest news event possible.
They know they can count on the so-called “mainstream” media carrying their water.
So all they need to do is serve up the moments the media can make go viral.
That’s why Attorney General William Barr threw a brushback pitch in Mueller’s direction.
