House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is about to face his first major fork in the road.
It could decide his political future and the direction of the Republican Party.
Kevin McCarthy is about to take a phone call that will force this brutal choice.
A growing number of Americans oppose continued funding for Joe Biden’s war against Russia.
The mounting cost — $113 billion in taxpayer funding and counting — combined with the reality that no one in Washington has any strategy for victory to end the conflict caused war fatigue amongst the public.
A Chicago Council on Global Affairs poll found an even split — 48 percent in favor and 47 percent opposed — on continued funding for Biden’s war against Russia.
But what is causing the pressure on McCarthy is the fact that just 33 percent of GOP voters support continued Ukraine war funding.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky counted on establishment RINOs like Mitch McConnell to rubberstamp every demand he made for weapons and escalating the conflict against Russia.
But Kevin McCarthy’s comments before the election about cutting off the blank check for Ukraine funding panicked Zelensky.
“I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine. They just won’t do it. … It’s not a free blank check. And then there’s the things [the Biden administration] is not doing domestically. Not doing the border and people begin to weigh that. Ukraine is important, but at the same time it can’t be the only thing they do and it can’t be a blank check,” McCarthy said in an interview last year with Punchbowl News.
Joe Biden is set to come to Congress this spring for tens of billions of dollars more in funding for the war in Ukraine.
And now Zelensky is trying to set up a call with McCarthy to pressure McCarthy to sign on to Biden’s globalist agenda and continue pumping taxpayer money into the war in Ukraine.
Punchbowl News reports:
The Ukrainian government is trying to set up a phone call between Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to multiple sources familiar with the effort.
The call hasn’t been scheduled yet.
The broader context here is important. A number of House Republicans have publicly turned sour on providing more funding to Ukraine to counter the ongoing Russian invasion, although there’s still majority support in the House for the embattled country. The United States has spent more than $113 billion so far on the war, with more than nearly $50 billion in direct military aid.
Last year RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell teamed with Joe Biden on a $1.7 trillion socialist spending bill which gifted Ukraine $40 billion for the war while banning new money being spent on border security here in America.
Right now McCarthy can round up the votes to pass a border security bill he promised conservatives as part of a deal to win the votes to secure the position of speaker of the House.
If McCarthy provides even more funding to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine’s border while doing nothing to stop Joe Biden’s illegal alien invasion McCarthy could face a conservative revolt.
