John Kennedy Worries About the Iran War’s Effect on Inflation

Senator John Kennedy had to break some bad news.

Kennedy knew there was no other choice.

Iran is waging an asymmetric war against the United States.

The American military demolished Iran’s conventional forces, so Iran responded by shutting down the Strait of Hormuz to choke off the global oil market and send prices spiraling.

President Trump pledged the Iran War would take no more than 4 or 5 weeks.

Senator Kennedy told CSPAN’s Dasha Burns that he supports the war and he supports the President.

But Kennedy admitted he was worried about the war dragging out and igniting another inflation crisis as high gas prices cause prices across the U, S, economy to shoot up.

“I’m a realist. I’m worried about the impact of the war on inflation. Is that a reason not to do what you have to do to protect your country? Which I thought we needed to do in this instance, no. But if we’re going to be fair, yeah, inflation. Inflation is a real concern,” Kennedy stated.

The latest inflation report contained cause for concern as the inflation rate rose faster than expected and sat over 3 percent year-over-year.

“The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.7 percent in February. Prices for final demand services moved up 0.5 percent, and the index for final demand goods advanced 1.1 percent. The index for final demand rose 3.4 percent for the 12 months ended in February,” the Bureau of Labor Statistics report read.

Kennedy also expressed concern for the job market after the February jobs report showed the U.S. economy shed 92,000 jobs.

“I’m worried about the labor market. We’re not adding jobs. We’re not losing jobs. The unemployment rate has stayed pretty solid. But interest rates matter, and this war will probably contribute, if it’s prolonged, to inflation. Now, if it’s not prolonged, I think the numbers, like the price of oil, I think they’ll come back down,” Kennedy added.

If the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for several more weeks, oil prices could spike to between $150 and $200 a barrel.

Such an oil price shock could plunge the globe into a recession.

That’s why President Trump warned Iran it had 48 hours to open up the Strait of Hormuz or face unimaginable consequences.

“If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
