Rachel Maddow knows what MSNBC’s viewers expect.
But the need to feed the audience’s Trump Derangement Syndrome took Maddow to a bad place.
And Rachel Maddow ended up with an egg on her face after this attack on Trump backfired.

In President Trump’s first term a cottage industry of so-called “fact checkers” cropped up.
These so-called “fact checkers” were just Democrat partisans who would claim Donald Trump would lie by not repeating the Democrat Party’s talking points.
The whole fact-check industrial complex was a scam to fool Americans into thinking the objective truth was whatever the Democrat Party said it was.
Trump won re-election in a landslide despite the assault on truth waged by the media.
But the “fact checkers” were unbowed and roared back with a vengeance in Trump’s second term.
However, it was the partisan snipers in the fact-checking regime who ended up with egg on their faces.
President Trump set the trap with his joint address to Congress.
In the speech, Trump listed off some of the worst abuses of taxpayer money uncovered by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Trump declared that DOGE discovered the Biden administration spent “$8 million for making mice transgender.”
The media pounced and couldn’t wait to mock Trump as a liar for claiming the government ran experiments to create transgender mice.
Maddow called Trump and the DOGE team “numbskulls” for wanting to shut down so-called vital research on “transgenic” mice – which are mice that are genetically altered.
“One of the things he said in his speech was that one of the terrible liberal things that his top campaign donor had discovered was happening in government was research to make mice transgender. And he said that in his speech, and all the Republicans gasped and laughed and jeered because that was so true. Actually, it’s transgenic mice. And transgenic mice are used in all kinds of laboratory research because mice are transgenic when they have been genetically altered,” Maddow stated.
“So you can study human illnesses and conditions in them even though they’re mice. It is transgenic mice, you numbskulls! But sure, go ahead and shut down all the labs studying all the diseases because what are you, five?” Maddow added.
CNN also called Trump a liar for claiming the government spent $8 million on transgender mice.
But CNN was forced to print a correction that read, “An earlier version of this item incorrectly characterized as false Trump’s claim about federal money being spent for ‘making mice transgender.’ The article has been updated with context about the spending, which was for research studies on the potential human health impacts of treatments used in gender-affirming care.”
Trump was right.
The government ran an experiment injecting mice with drugs used to chemically castrate boys and girls to judge their effect on humans.
“The morning after Trump’s speech, the White House provided a list of $8.3 million in federal grants to health studies that involve mice receiving treatments that can be used in gender-affirming health care. The White House list made clear what Trump, in the speech, did not: The studies were meant to figure out how these treatments might affect the health of humans who take them, not for the purpose of making mice transgender,” CNN reported.
Now many conservatives are wondering if Rachel Maddow will also apologize for her incorrect fact check.
