Joe Biden isn’t in control of his own future anymore.
He’s not even calling the shots for his reelection campaign.
In fact, Jill Biden hit the roof when the real reason Biden is running again was revealed.
A presidential historian said during a CBS interview over the weekend that Jill Biden was one of the main reasons President Joe Biden is running for re-election.
Douglas Brinkley, author of “The Unfinished Presidency,” told CBS News’ “Face The Nation” on Sunday that, unlike other first ladies, Jill Biden isn’t ready to leave the White House.
He highlighted the fact that in the past, Presidents Harry Truman and Lyndon B. Johnson decided not to run for a second term because their wives were against it.
“She is the vital part. Dr. Jill Biden is it,” Brinkley told CNN.
“You know, if you go back to 1952, Harry Truman could have run, and he didn’t. Why? Well, the Korean War and, you know, other reasons. But — but Bess wanted to go back to Independence [Missouri] — she didn’t like it in Washington.”
“If you cut to ’68, Lyndon Johnson was – quit in March of ’68 and people will say because of Walter Cronkite.”
“No,” he said. “The big thing was his health was bad, he had a bad heart, he was smoking, high blood pressure, tension, and Lady Bird Johnson didn’t want to stay in. And she wanted – let’s go back to Texas and convinced Johnson to step down.”
“That’s not the case with Jill Biden,” Brinkley stated.
“She likes power. She wants to stay. She wants some sense of revenge.”
“She teaches in Virginia Community College. This milieu around our building here, this is her home. And the idea of relinquishing it all after you’ve taken the slings and arrows of the last years of attacks, and at the last minute, just when you get all the delegates you’re going to say, I’m going to open it up to a bunch of people — it’s very childish when you read those kind of reports,” Brinkley said.
Jill Biden has been open about how she urged Joe Biden to run for president again.
In February last year, she was asked if there was any chance her husband would not run for reelection.
“Not in my book,” she told CNN. “I’m all for it, of course.”
“It’s Joe’s decision,” she said. “And we support whatever he wants to do. If he’s in, we’re there. If he wants to do something else, we’re there too.”
However in the same month of February last year, Biden said in an ABC News interview that he had to call Jill Biden in order “to find out” whether he was running in 2024.
