A member of the Biden administration outright contradicted his boss in public.
The emergency is just too big to ignore any longer.
The Border Patrol chief made a crisis statement that’s a nightmare for Joe Biden.
Testifying in front of Congress on Wednesday Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted that the Department of Homeland Security does not have operational control of the U.S. southern border.
Ortiz made the comment during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing in McAllen, Texas, when asked a question by Chairman Mark Green.
“Does DHS have operational control of our entire border?” Green asked.
“No sir,” Ortiz responded.
Green had a board highlighting the U.S definition of “operational control” right behind him. The definition is “the prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States, including entries by terrorists, other unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics and other contraband.”
After the admission Green played a clip of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas which was directly opposite.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) questioned Mayorkas last year over whether the U.S. had operational control of the southern border. “Yes, we do,” Mayorkas claimed. “Yes, we do.”
Green then asked Ortiz if he thought Mayorkas was lying.
“About ten years ago, we used operational control as a measuring stick of our effectiveness along the southwest border. My new strategy is geared towards mission advantage,” Ortiz responded.
Green highlighted Mayorkas’ remarks again.
“You heard the secretary, he said we have operational control,” he said, before pointing to the definition. “That’s the definition.”
Ortiz responded: “Based upon the definition you have sir, up there, no.”
“We don’t have operational control?” Green asked.
“No sir,” Ortiz said.
Every single Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee refused to attend the hearing in McAllen, Texas.
“It’s deeply disappointing that the Minority members of the Committee have chosen to bail on this week’s full committee field hearing in Texas, only after they invited and confirmed a minority witness for one of the panels,” Green said in a statement. “The only message their absence sends is that they are uninterested in coming to the table to have a conversation about the devastation that this border crisis is having on Americans and their communities across the country. We will continue to encourage our Democrat colleagues to get out of the DC echo chamber and meet Americans where they are to discuss the biggest issues facing them.”
Democrats are doing everything possible to avoid dealing with record-breaking illegal immigration numbers America is experiencing under Joe Biden. In 2022 there were 2.76 million illegal border crossings, breaking the previous annual record by more than one million.
